Surrounded by love, Dalvinder Kaur Obhi passed away peacefully on August 16, 2025, at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
She is survived by her mother, Kamaljeet Kaur Obhi, her sister, Parminder Kaur Obhi, many close, loving family members on the paternal side (Obhi), maternal side (Barmi) and friends. She was predeceased by her father, Mohan Singh Obhi.
Dalvinder was born on May 8, 1970, in Kampala, Uganda, to Mohan Singh and Kamaljeet Kaur Obhi. In 1972, they made their difficult journey from a war-torn Uganda to Kenya, then England and finally to Canada. Selkirk, Manitoba, is where Dalvinder was welcomed by cold snow and the warm open arms of her aunt, Gian Kaur Rihal, her uncle, Dr. Nirmal Singh Rihal, and her cousins, Charanjit, Kiranjit, and Amarjit Rihal.
At a young age, Dalvinder started working at the Met store in Selkirk. She graduated from Lord Selkirk Comprehensive Secondary High School and later earned a degree in Sociology from the University of Winnipeg. After graduating from university, she worked for almost 30 years in the mental health field. Her career started in Selkirk with the Canadian Mental Health Authority Interlake Region. She then worked for the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority as a Cross-Cultural Mental Health Specialist, an Intensive Case Manager and a Co-Occurring Disorders Initiative Case Manager. She was well respected and loved by her coworkers and clients. Dalvinder was the recipient of the CMHA Heroes of Mental Health Professional Award for her devotion to her clients.
Dalvinder dedicated her life to her family, career, and communities. She was passionate about bringing people together and promoting culture through her extensive involvement with Folklorama and the Asian Women of Winnipeg. She was committed to educating and creating awareness of mental health with a focus on the Asian community.
In her spare time, she enjoyed a variety of activities, including gardening, reading, taking her family to social events, and watching movies with blankets. She had an interest in fashion and colour.
Dalvinder faced her battle with cancer with incredible courage and grace, never losing her sense of humour or passion for life.
The family would like to thank the oncology team at Health Sciences Centre CancerCare, Dr. Desautels, Cristina, and Danika. We would also like to thank Grace Hospital, Dr. Crocker, and the attending staff for the care and respect they showed to Dalvinder.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on August 25, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Winnipeg, MB. (A private cremation ceremony held by the family prior to the service)
Sikh prayers and reception will follow and begin at 12:00 p.m. at the Sikh Society of Manitoba Temple, 1244 Mollard Rd., Winnipeg, MB.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba in her name.
We invite you to wear bright, colourful clothing at the service to honour Dalvinder’s love for colour and life.

Dalvinder was a beautiful soul. She inspired and helped me to become the person I am today. She went above and beyond on more than one occasion and reminded me of my worth when I was not able to see it. She taught me how to be a better human being. She will be forever missed and never forgotten. - Posted by: Kelsey (Client/Friend) on: Aug 25, 2025
