SOTIRIA GOVATSOS
It is with great sorrow and sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our loving mother and grandmother, Sotiria Govatsos, at the age of 90. She passed away peacefully and without sickness or suffering at St. Boniface Hospital.
Sotiria was born in Lakonia, Greece, in 1935, and immigrated to Canada in 1959 to join her fiancé, John, and they were married that same year. She leaves behind her son James; daughter Vicky; son-in-law Keith; her precious granddaughter Sotiria; and in Greece, her brother, sisters, cousins, and their families.
Upon our father’s death 42 years ago, she became both mother and father to her children. She faced life’s toughest challenges with grace and determination, displaying independence, unwavering dedication, strength, and resilience. Her life was all about her family, full of love, kindness, and generosity. She devoted herself and sacrificed everything for us; we were her world. Her love was the foundation of our family.
We would like to thank Father Nikolaos Tambakis of the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church and Mike Vogiatzakis of Voyage Funeral Home for all their personal help and support at this difficult time.
Funeral services were held both in Greece and Winnipeg.
We will always feel both the pain of great loss and the enduring love we felt for our mother and grandmother.
GOD bless her always in Christ.
