It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Uncle Bob on August 25, 2025, in the Arborg and District Health Centre at the age of 91.
Born in Eriksdale, Manitoba on March 27, 1934. At a very young age he worked hard on the farms of many local farmers and thus became his love of horses. At the tender age of 18 he joined the Canadian Army as a rifleman and that only lasted two years. He then started his trucking career in the mid 50s with his brother-in-law Dave Johnson Sr. and family that owned a small trucking company Johnson Cartage. Following that he worked for Safeway stores delivering their products locally. He then decided to try long haul for Reimer Express. To be closer to family he then purchased a gravel truck and worked out of Winnipeg. Longing to go back on the road he decided to purchase his first hi-way semi-truck a GMC General in 1978 to be an owner operator for Kingsway Freightlines for approximately 10 years. After that he worked for several trucking companies such as Cougar, Robert Lindsay Trucking and John Eichel Trucking that included a truck driving career that span over 50 years. He decided to move to Gladstone in 2005 and worked driving for local farmers as needed. Wanting to be close to family he moved to Riverton, Manitoba in 2017. He lived in the Icelandic River Lodge for six and a half years until he needed more help and moved to Assisted Living in the Town of Arborg in September of 2023. In April of this year his health declined rapidly until his passing.
He can be remembered as a very kind and giving man that loved to help others. He spent a lot of time at the Riverton and District Friendship Centre and made many friends there. He enjoyed living in Arborg where he made new friends and special friend, Lorna, who will truly miss him. He was predeceased by his parents Samuel and Margaret Houston, siblings Alice Magnusson (Dave Johnson Sr.) in 2007 and Eleanor Quantz (John) in 2009. Two great-nephews Robbie Johnson 2005 and Jeffery Brown 2025.
Left to cherish his memory are his nephews Dave (Judy) Johnson, Alan (Janie) Johnson, Carl (Kathie) Johnson and Nieces Debbie (Jeff) Brown, Diane (Kurt) Mcneely and all their families. Special friends Wanda and Murray.
Thank you to all the people at Riverton and District Friendship Centre, Icelandic River Lodge, Arborg Assisted Living that helped him over the years and to the Staff at the Arborg and District Health Centre for the special comfort care they provided for his recent stay.
A funeral service will be held at the Fellowship Circle in Riverton, Manitoba on September 1, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor James Thiessen officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly ask if desired that donations be made in his memory to the Sylvan Cemetery, Box 977 Arborg, Manitoba R0C 0A0 for the upkeep of his final resting place.
