ERIC PELE

Peacefully surrounded by his family, Eric passed away at home, on August 20, 2025 at the age of 68. Eric will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Joycelyn, daughter Caitlyn and son-in-law Chris along with many family members and friends who have shared numerous fond memories and laughs with him. Predeceased by his parents Edvin and Lucia Pele and all four of his elder siblings Anita, Andy, Laila and Yuris, the family is united once again.

Eric lived a full and adventurous life, travelling to the mountains as an avid skier, whether competitively racing growing up, later through Manitoba Masters or annual visits to Sun Peaks for family vacations, taking this time to catch up with both family and close friends. Eric also loved to spend all the time he possibly could out at the cottage, riding his bike or cross-country skiing through the trails, early morning tee times with friends and family at either Pinawa or Falcon Lake Golf Courses, building furniture, working on the cabin, or taking kids behind the boat. His favourite part of each of these activities though was including his wife Joycelyn [sometimes enticing her with a nice snack of cheese and crackers] and his daughter Caitlyn along on his adventures as well as enjoying the company of the tight knit lake group, who felt more like family than friends.

As a graduate of the University of Manitoba MBA program, through his market research business Pele Research and Consulting, Eric worked with many companies, honing in on their individualized marketing plans, with a few of his cherished being the non-profits such as The Christmas Cheer Board of Winnipeg, United Way Winnipeg, Cancer Manitoba, and Ducks Unlimited.

As an avid athlete himself, Eric loved to support his daughter in all of her athletic endeavours; coaching soccer and hockey teams growing up, becoming a registered Speed Skating referee, and his most treasured role as an assistant coach for the St. Mary’s Academy Hockey Team, beginning with the high school team with Bob Johnson, and later coaching St. Mary’s prep team with Larry Bumstead and his daughter Caitlyn for their hockey program.

But nothing was more beloved than his Ozone hockey group. Eric insisted on continuing to play hockey, declaring all through his many recoveries he was getting stronger so he could go out and skate. Even more cherished than his hockey though were his long-time friends that he played with, many also members at Glendale Golf and Country Club together.

A celebration of Eric’s life will be held on September 15 at Glendale Golf and Country Club.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at CancerCare Manitoba: Dr. Kobt and his nurse Caitlin Scott along with all the kind technicians in the hematology labs at CancerCare, all of whom he took pride in getting to know and appreciated each individually for their kindness, considering each and every one his friends at CancerCare. Thank you for all of your kindness and compassionate care, and for never giving up the fight, as he insisted. Thank you as well to the kind staff at palliative care, who were of immense help to Eric and the family in his last days, allowing him to remain at home, as per his wishes.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba or Myeloma Canada in his name.

  • I met Eric almost 30 years ago when a couple of good friends got me an invite to join the Ozone Hockey crew at the Winter Club. Over the years Eric’s calm, cool, competitive spirit was certainly something to aspire to…a true gentleman and sportsman. I enjoyed his company at the rink and on a few occasions at Red Rock for the annual Ozone golf event. I can attest to his love of the lake, skiing and the outdoors in general, a common series of interests we shared. My sincere condolences to his family…may you find peace in the days and weeks ahead. - Posted by: Marc Pellerin (Friend) on: Sep 02, 2025

  • On behalf of the Leslie-Ferguson family, Bruce, Collene, Erin and Sean we offer our sincerest and heartfelt condolences to Joycelyn and Caitlin. Upon moving to Winnipeg in the late 90s Eric was one of the first friends I made in the neighborhood and our children grew up together and we played hockey, golf and skied together for years. Making great memories along the way. I also had the chance to work with him and his company and received outstanding counsel and advice. He was extremely thorough and gifted researcher and analyst. We will all miss him. - Posted by: Bruce Leslie (Friend) on: Aug 30, 2025
