Our beautiful little sister, Audrey Schreyer, passed September 8, 2025, in the Selkirk Regional Health Centre, with her brother at her side.
Audrey is survived by her brother Lloyd (Sharon) (together with Audrey known as Princess Audrey and Lady Sharon), sister Shirley, nephews Bradley, Bruce (Doreen) and Billy, niece Kimberly (Dennis) grand-nieces, Bryanna, Jessica and Meghan, grand-nephews, Dustin, Wyatt and Logan, many cousins and Sharon's daughter and son, Tannis and Craig (Janelle), grandkids, Lilja, Mitch and Teddy.
Audrey was predeceased by her father Joseph, mother Alita and step-mother, Doris.
Audrey's life was different, not by her own choosing. Audrey was conceived while her mother had cancer, her mother passed when Audrey was six-months and a path of mental health challenges was set for Audrey's life.
Audrey became a patient at the Selkirk Mental Health Centre, SMHC, where she resided until her passing. As her brother and legal guardian, I will be forever grateful to SMHC for providing Audrey with a safe place to live, loving care and a good quality of life. Audrey was a vulnerable little person, and had it not been for SMHC and the wonderful staff there, Audrey would not have had the quality and longevity of life she had.
In her earlier years, Audrey had many good times with family at her brother's home, trips to Alberta, at her sister's home, trips to Hawaii, and her last adventure with family to Victoria, BC.
Audrey loved to cook, cooked meals for us in earlier years, at our home, and in more recent years, when she was still able to visit, Audrey always peeled and mashed the potatoes.
Audrey's most recent place of residence at SMHC was in the Tyndall Building, where she had her own room and TV and loved to watch cooking shows and wrestling.
There were three-siblings in our family, older sister, Shirley (and family) who live in Alberta; brother Lloyd (wife Sharon), who live in Winnipeg; and Audrey. Audrey and I (Lloyd) had a close relationship and after our parents died in the 1980s, Audrey became like the child I never had.
One might think that, under the circumstances, the relationship may bring its challenges and sometimes it did, but it also came with rewards, and the rewards far exceeded the challenges.
Audrey loved me and taught me a lot during her life: caring for another person, patience, (although still a work-in-progress), understanding, a life of learning about mental illness, appreciation, humility, thankfulness, and more.
Her sister Shirley, in spite of living in Alberta, also maintained a close relationship with Audrey, and when Shirley visited, it was a special time for Audrey. Her eyes would light up and her spirits would soar.
Audrey loved her family and every Christmas, Audrey would have cards and a gift list for her entire family. Audrey was very intelligent, had a great sense of humour and generous of heart.
Audrey experienced more than her share of medical issues, but was a tough little soul and over and over again overcame all until the last one. Now I hope, finally at last, Audrey is reunited with her mother, whom she lost at 6-months old.
A Celebration of Audrey's Life will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the Recreation Hall - Selkirk Mental Health Centre - 825 Manitoba Ave - Selkirk MB.

I remember Audrey from high school. At the time I was not aware that she had lost her mother at such a tender age. I encountered her again at the Selkirk Mental Health Centre many years later. I am not sure that she recognized me. It is nice to read about her relationship with her brother and that she was able to travel. My husband Darwin and I both had the honour of knowing Audrey. She was pure personality! Her brother and family were always a source of love and support for her. Lloyd , I’m so sorry to hear of little Audrey’s passing she was a very special lady. During my years working at SMCH I spent sometime talking and getting to know Audrey. She was a little fire cracker when she wanted to be lol but was always quick to say she was sorry if she thought she was to harsh or hurt your feelings. We would sit and talk at coffee time and she would tell me about her trips with her family or about how she had a job in her younger years as a waitress before her illness impacted her life. Rest easy now Audrey I know you will be missed by the Staff at SMHC.
