It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Norma Ermine James, who peacefully went to sleep in Jesus on Tuesday morning, September 30, 2025 at the age of 93.
Norma was the devoted wife of the late Randolph (Randy) James and cherished mother of Lyndon James. She was born in Princess Town, Trinidad, to Archibald and Wilhelmina Haynes. At the age of 28, she left Trinidad to pursue her studies in the United Kingdom, where she earned her Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing.
In 1966, Norma married Randy, and together they made their home in Portage la Prairie, where they lived for almost 23 years before retiring and moving to Winnipeg. Following Randy’s passing in 2000, Norma carried on with remarkable courage, supported by her son Lyndon and many devoted friends. She will be remembered as a woman of strength, grace, unwavering faith, and deep love for her family and community.
Norma is survived by her son Lyndon, her sister Mariam Wallace, brother-in-law Wilfred James, nieces and nephews including her beloved niece Hazel, and many other relatives and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory. She was affectionately known to many as "Aunty Norma" or "Mother".
A Celebration of Life service will be held in her honour on Sunday, October 19, 2025 at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, 2140 Ness Avenue, Winnipeg at 11:00 a.m. A repast will follow immediately after the service.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, MB.
Interment will take place at Glen Eden Funeral Home on Monday, October 20, 2025 at 10:00 a.m.

Norma was such a wonderful light in my life when l met her at West Park. She will always have a special place in my heart. I’m just sorry l wasn’t there for Norma’s last days. As you know l have been in hospital since Mar 22 2025 learning to walk again and Lyndon I’m almost there. I was so hoping l would be able to surprise her when l could come back walking and her being the first special person to hug. I’m still in hospital but hoping to be able to get my own place to live soon. Please take care of yourself Lyndon and think of you often. Liven your mom very much ♥️♥️♥️🙏 - Posted by: Pat Elliott (Wonderful friend at West Park Manor) on: Oct 11, 2025
