Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHENRY DYCK
Henry Dyck, at the age of 95, peacefully passed away on October 8, 2025, at Concordia Hospital, with family by his side.
Henry was born on October 18, 1929, in Alesheim, Ukraine, then part of the Soviet Union. His early years were shaped by one of the darkest decades in history, living under the shadow of Stalinist oppression. Despite those hardships, Henry carried with him an enduring strength, faith, and perseverance that defined the course of his life.
In 1948, Henry immigrated to Canada, arriving first in Quebec City before settling in Winnipeg, where he began to build a new life. His first years in Canada were marked by humble beginnings and hard work - shovelling streetcar tracks for Winnipeg Electric, punching holes for screws in chair frames at Ideal Brass, and taking on any job that came his way. Through dedication and determination, Henry eventually became a successful business owner, working alongside his brother.
His entrepreneurial spirit and love for his family led him to establish WRE Development with his sons - a company that continues today as a thriving multi-generational family business. His legacy of integrity, perseverance, and vision remains at the heart of that success.
Henry loved traveling with his friends to Hawaii and Palm Springs, where they would golf and enjoy happy hour together - creating memories filled with laughter and friendship. Henry and his beloved wife Irene shared a deep bond; they loved travelling and going on walks together, enjoying the simple joys of life side by side.
He was a man of deep faith, attending First Mennonite Church, which was an integral part of his life from his earliest days in Winnipeg. His devotion to family was unwavering, and to Henry, nothing was more important than the people he loved most. It is a value his family will forever hold close.
Henry was predeceased by his beloved wife, Irene Dyck, who was his rock and lifelong companion; his parents, Heinrich and Helen Dyck; and his grandparents, Abram and Maria Dyck.
He is survived by his three sons - Walter (Hildy) Dyck, Rob (Vera) Dyck, and Erick Dyck (Tammy Rak) - and his loving grandchildren Ryan (Sylvia), Chris (Sheena), Danielle (Mike), Carson, Lindsay, Brayden, Sasha, Brooke, Lauren. Henry was also blessed with great-grandchildren Vayda, Stella, Zak, Arey, Henry and Ruby who brought him endless joy and pride.
Henry is also survived by his brothers Arthur and Wally (Erica) Dyck, and by Freda Sawatzky, brother-in-law John Jansen, sisters-in-laws Elsie Wiebe, Helen Laverty and Malita Heinrich
He will be fondly remembered by extended family and friends whose lives he touched through his kindness, humor, and unwavering faith.
Henry’s life was one of quiet strength, gratitude, and devotion to his family. His legacy of love and perseverance will live on through generations to come.
Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., in Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St.

Opa, now that you are gone, I’ve had to say goodbye to all my grandparents in a short time. Without the dreams and determination of you all—immigrants to Canada seeking a better life—our family wouldn’t be where it is today. You came here as a young man, driven to make your father proud. You worked hard, took on many jobs, and never let hardship break your determination to leave a mark in this country. I know it wasn’t easy being a German immigrant in Canada at that time. You faced judgment, but you took that criticism and turned it into fuel. You and Uncle Art built a business from the ground up—not just for yourselves, but for your families and the generations that would follow. That legacy continues, and we are so proud to carry it forward. Your stubbornness and tenacity are legendary. Even when others told you to slow down or give up, you pushed forward. I’ve always admired how much my dad looks up to you—how he followed you into the business you started, doing everything he could to keep it going (even when he might not have been very good at the tasks you gave him in the beginning). He appreciated your guidance—even when you didn’t realize you were giving it. Ryan Danielle and I will always treasure the time we spent with you and Oma at Big Whiteshell together. You were stern when teaching us new things, but we always had fun—sharing jokes and poking fun at each other, never with malice. (We may have even taught you a few things we wish we hadn’t... like: “You’re strong… but smell isn’t everything!”) I’ll forever cherish our walks together at Big Whiteshell, picking out hydro poles to throw rocks at—never without a healthy competition on the line. Just like you wanted to make your father proud, and our dad wanted to make you proud—we hope to do the same, with you and Oma guiding us from above. Opa Opa two by four—finally got through heaven’s door. We love you. Give Oma a big kiss from all of us Love Christan - Posted by: Christan Dyck (Grandson) on: Oct 17, 2025

Dear Walter, Rob & Eric. It was with tremendous sadness to hear of the passing of your father. We will always remember his great smile and welcoming personality. He was a true pillar to your family and to the WRE organization. Albeit most of our relationship was work related we did get to know your Mom & Dad on a visit down south which we will cherish forever. Our deepest & sincerest condolences to the entire family. We too have lost most of our parents and the loss will leave a huge hole in the family. Our hope is for peace in your time of morning and cherishing the Great Memories with your Dad! Sincerely, Lynda & Wally Ruban - Posted by: Wally Ruban (Family Friend) on: Oct 14, 2025

My Condolences to the Dyck families & progeny yet happy for their following Henry's decency & charity. WRE donated to Folklorama & more. During my 48 years in the Towers including with June Wells as our home, the staff like Dan, Allan, Chantal, Tanya, Schwan were considerate & fun. I am reading Henry's book as Ukrainian then Canadian. Glad he enjoyed a long healthy life close to age 97 with so many beneficial memories for his families, friends & communities. - Posted by: Denzil FEINBERG (Long time tenant of Holiday Towers, Winnipeg) on: Oct 12, 2025

So sorry to hear of your loss of great man. I used to run into your Dad with Harold Neufeld at Bel Acres for Derkson Plumbing and heating golf tournament. A huge loss big shoes for you to fill Walter but are a capable guy. RIP Henry. - Posted by: Walter Christie (Friend) on: Oct 12, 2025
