Its is with great sadness that the family of Mervin Slotta announces his passing on October 19, 2025, at the age of 100 years.
Mervin was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife Mary Slotta (Kasmerski), whom left this world on April 27, 2023. As well as his brother Michael (1981), sister Pauline (1987), brothers Steve (2003), Reverend George (2000), Walter (2005), William (2007), Theodore (2011), Paul (2012), and Harry (2014) as well as his granddaughter Mindy Slotta (December 19, 2011),
Left to honour his memory son Mark Slotta (Donna Mally), daughter Monica Slotta, Grandson Corey Slotta, granddaughter Tia Slotta, great grandchildren Chase, Trinity, Dakota and Dominic, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends throughout Canada and the US.
Mervin was born in July 1925, in Oakbank Manitoba. He married the love of his life, Mary Slotta (Kasmerski) on October 21, 1950, in Cooks Creeks Manitoba.
Mervin worked various jobs before making a joint decision to go into business with his wife Mary in 1957 entering into the hotel business. Starting in Mariapolis, MB for three years, then to Estevan SK for three years. They finally settled in Kenora Ontario with the opening of the Northland Hotel, from 1963 to 1988, it was then in Kenora that they started their family. After relocating to Winnipeg, MB in the early 70s they continued their ventures with the Flamingo Motel from 1974 to 1988.
After retirement, Mervin loved spending time with family and friends, as well as traveling with Mary. Then in 1999 they purchased their winter home in Sun City West AZ, spending every winter there, with the exception of one, with their last year being in 2023.
Mervin was a devout Catholic, and a Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Member
Divine Liturgy will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., at St Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 737 Bannerman Ave, with interment to follow in Pine Ridge Cemetery in Birds Hill Park.
