It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, David Hiebert, who passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at the age of 95.
He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Barbara Dueck, Colleen Loewen (George), Mary Jane Hiebert (Wade McMurrich), and Ellen Hiebert (Murray Penner); grandchildren, Michael (Nina), Ryan (Megan), Meagan (Kyle), Kate, Dillon (Robyn), and Daegan; great-grandchildren, Madison, Wesley, Matthew, Lorelai, Gideon, and Mikayla; sister Erna (Ben) Thiessen; brother Jacob Hiebert; sisters-in-law, Myrtle Hiebert and Sarah Thiessen; and many extended family and friends.
He was predeceased by his wife Mary (Wiebe) Hiebert; his parents, Heinrich Hiebert and Otillie Luzius; brothers, Henry, John, William, Fred; sister Elsie; sons-in-law, Dietmar Dueck and Wayne Bell; and three sisters-in-law, Muriel, Hertha, and Peggy.
Born in Lowe Farm on October 18, 1929, David grew up in Arnaud, Manitoba. He worked hard throughout his life, employed at Loewen Funeral Chapel, Loewen Chev Olds, and Penner International Ltd. In retirement, he enjoyed working at Penn-Lite Electric and volunteering at the Mennonite Heritage Village and could often be found mowing lawn or visiting with friends.
David loved woodworking, gardening, and golfing - especially the day he scored a hole-in-one at the Steinbach Fly-In Golf Course. He and Mary spent many happy years at Bridgepark Manor, and later David enjoyed his time at Resthaven.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Resthaven for their care and compassion over the past year. We would also like to express our gratitude to Galine and Sue, who went out of their way to provide compassionate home care while dad lived on his own at Bridgepark Manor.
The Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 162 PTH 52W, Steinbach, MB.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Steinbach Community Foundation, 385 Loewen Blvd #1, Steinbach, MB R5G 0H4.
