DOROTHY SANDRA (CLARK) TALMAN
Peacefully and surrounded by love, Dorothy passed away on October 9, 2025, at the age of 88.
Dorothy was born in Winnipeg on January 28,1937, to parents Robert and Marie (Mary) Clark. A younger sister to Ardelia, she grew up in the River Heights area attending Queenston, Robert H. Smith, and Kelvin High School.
Following her high school graduation in 1954, Dorothy attended business college before starting her working career with The Canadian Indemnity Company. In 1957, she accepted a position as the Secretary to the Superintendent of Pensions with the Canadian Pacific Railway, a role she loved immensely.
In 1961, Dorothy met Jerry Talman, and they were wed at St. Andrews River Heights United Church in Winnipeg on April 27,1963. They were soon blessed with two sons, Clark (1965) and Curtis (1968).
In 1974, Dorothy, Jerry, and their boys, moved to a hobby farm in Starbuck, Manitoba, and it was there that Dorothy fell in love with the country lifestyle. Her years in Starbuck were truly her happiest, thanks to a wonderful community that embraced their family. Dorothy quickly became an active volunteer for the Starbuck Curling Club, UCW, and 4-H Club. Together they were instrumental in planning, organizing, and presenting annual dinner theatres with the Starbuck Hall and the Starbuck United Church. Their volunteerism was recognized in 1997 with the Manitoba Premier’s Volunteer Service Award.
Once her sons finished high school, Dorothy returned to work as the Secretary at Oxford United Church, in Winnipeg. She retired in 1992, enabling her to pursue even more volunteer opportunities.
In 1997, when Jerry’s health declined, they moved from Starbuck back to Winnipeg, and as was their nature, they quickly developed new friendships in Winnipeg. Their community minded spirit continued, as they volunteered at various community events including the baseball venue for the 1999 Pan Am Games. Following Jerry’s passing in 2007, Dorothy’s ambitious nature took her to the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver as a volunteer with VIP Transportation. She also furthered her passion for the stage by taking acting lessons, leading to performances in the Winnipeg Fringe Festival and a role in the TV series, “Cashing In”.
In 2014, Dorothy married Robert (Bob) Galston and the two spent many happy years together. Dorothy always said that she felt so blessed to find love, not once, but twice in her lifetime. As both had been closely affected by cancer, they proudly and passionately volunteered for the Camp Quality Puppets Program. Dorothy and Bob moved into Seine River Retirement Residence in 2018. Together they formed many new friendships, launched and participated in as many activities as possible, and felt loved and cared for by residents and staff alike.
Dorothy was recently predeceased by Bob on September 9, 2024, and her sister Ardelia Burrow, on October 7, 2025. She leaves to cherish her memory sons Clark and Curtis (Cindy), Bob’s children; Yvonne (Greg), Blair, and Brenda (Dave) and sons, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Windsor Park United Church on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., Diane Meredith, Minister-Candidate, officiating.
The family respectfully requests no flowers, but in keeping with Dorothy’s wishes, memorial donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, or the Winnipeg Humane Society.

Our deepest sympathy to Dorothy’s family and friends. The world has lost a spark. She was the driving force behind the Starbuck dinner theatre for many years. Dorothy had such a wonderful sense of humour and will miss her dearly. - Posted by: Jackie Shale (Friend) on: Oct 25, 2025
