JOHN ROSS MURRAY

John Ross Murray left this mortal coil on October 11, 2025, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the age of 92.

Born on April 3, 1933, in Zelma, Saskatchewan, Ross was a farm boy at heart who grew into a man of remarkable character, curiosity, and quiet wit.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Faye Murray, his children, Sharon Bain, Steve Murray, and Mitzi Murray, his grandchildren, John, Travis, Scott, and Kaye, his great-grandchild Abby, and his sister Sybil Higginson. He was predeceased by his many beloved siblings.

Ross lived a full and adventurous life. A military man for over 30 years, he and his family were stationed across Canada and in Germany, where he built lifelong friendships and proudly represented the Canadian Forces as a competitive hockey player in international tournaments.

A talented athlete, Ross was equally at home on the hockey rink, baseball diamond, or golf course - where, in his 60s, he celebrated a hole-in-one at the Carman Golf Course with his son Steve by his side. Despite his athletic prowess, he was, by his own admission, "scared *#@*less of water" and swam, as he said, "like a stone".

Ross had a deep love for the land, spending countless hours helping on the family farm and tending his own gardens. He took great pride in the bountiful harvests that Faye would later preserve, ensuring the family enjoyed the fruits of their labour year-round.

In his woodshop - his refuge - Ross crafted personal treasures for family and friends, each piece carrying his trademark precision and care. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who led with love, humour, and quiet strength.

Ross and Faye's long marriage began with sparks and grew into a steadfast partnership marked by laughter, patience, and deep affection. Together they built a family filled with warmth and stories worth retelling.

A memorial ceremony will be held April 4, 2026 in Winnipeg.

Ross's ashes will be interred at the Zelma Cemetery, near his family farm, at a future date.
