Jeanne FIOLA

(née HACAULT)

Surrounded by loving family, Maman peacefully left us on October 19, 2025, at the age of 93 to join her spouse Louis, and many cherished family members, in-laws and friends who predeceased her.

She is fondly remembered by her nine children, Diane (Michel), Gérald, Claude (Claudette), Rose Marie (Mike), Suzanne (Rick), Gabriel (Marcie), Lorraine (Donald), Lise (Scott), Mireille (Jeff), 19 grandchildren, Patrick (Bonnie), Joey (Christel), Carmène (Lanza), Danielle (Kris), Rémi, Janelle (Sean), Jacqueline (Ryan), Michelle (Andy), Catherine (Kyle), Mathieu (Rachael), Stéphane (Dasha), Mélanie (Gabriel), Annie (Ryan), Sarah, Colin, Andrés (Renée), Kara, Katarina, Sophia, and 20 great-grandchildren. Also left to mourn her passing are her sisters and brothers, Julie, Armand (Yvette), Mathilde, Lucien (Simone) and Émile (Sylvie).

Maman dedicated much of her life to caring for children. She had a very strong bond with her siblings as they lost their mother when she was but a few months old. As a teenager, Jeanne left school to help her ailing stepmother with her seven younger siblings, which evolved into full-time care after her stepmother’s passing. Courageous and hard-working, she would go on to have her own large family in the farming community of Ste. Geneviève where she lived for sixty years. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, some of whom she babysat while their parents worked, brought her great joy.

Maman felt at peace in nature, relishing the air, sounds and earthy smells of the country, as well as during long walks in the city. She greatly missed these outings when her health deteriorated. She spent the latter part of her life in a 55+ community in St. Boniface. Jeanne took tremendous pleasure in baking delicious homemade bread, cakes, cinnamon buns, muffins and cookies that she would kindly offer to her grateful guests.

Her profound faith sustained Maman through life’s many challenges. She found immense solace in prayer, as well as the friendships she developed within the Catholic community. Jeanne was very grateful for the good care received during her illness and sincerely appreciated all who reached out to her in-person or by phone. In particular, she was thankful for the compassionate medical care from her GP, Dr. Luke Sadler, HSC Cancer Care staff including oncologist Dr. Mohammed Akra, staff at Riverview Health Centre and Jocelyn House Hospice, as well as the support from the Place Des Meurons community.

Funeral services including prayers and eulogy will be held in Saint Boniface Cathedral at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 1, 2025. Funeral mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. Interment will take place privately in Ste. Geneviève, Manitoba.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jocelyn House Hospice, a charity of your choice, or a mass may be offered in the name of the deceased.
