With heavy hearts, we share that Giovanni Buccini, 85, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, passed away peacefully at Lions Personal Care Home on October 26, 2025.
Giovanni was predeceased by his parents, Maria “Requilda” and Giuseppe Buccini, and brothers, Antonio Buccini and Carmine Buccini. He will be lovingly missed by his sister, Maria Curatolo, along with sisters-in-law, Pierina Buccini and Emilia Buccini, nephews and nieces, Bruno (Nancy), Mario (Andrea) and Carlo, Rosanna (Tim) and Joe (Anna), Gianna (Gianni) and Lorella (Flavio), and many cousins, great-nieces and nephews, and friends.
Giovanni was born on August 29, 1940, in Villalago, L’Aquila, Italy and immigrated to Canada with his family in 1955. Affectionately known as “Johnny”, he was the spirit of kindness, gentleness and humility. He lived his life with a great sense of humour and a quick burst of laughter. Johnny was empathetic and loyal, appreciated simplicity and never demanded anything from anyone. He dutifully worked at Canada West/Greb Shoes for over 40 years and would proudly wear the cowboy boots he had a hand in making. Giovanni appreciated nothing more than being surrounded by his family, enjoying a good meal, watching sports or adding yet another bowling trophy to his collection. “Johnny” will be forever loved and dearly missed.
Giovanni’s family sincerely thanks all doctors, nurses and staff that lovingly cared for him, especially at Lions Personal Care Home (3rd Floor).
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba or to a charity of your choice.
Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025, at Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, with Father Michael Savarimuthu presiding. Condolences are offered at 10:00 a.m. with Mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB.
