LORRAINE HELEN LAFORTUNE

(nee MAJOR)

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Lorraine Helen Lafortune (nee Major) on December 4, 2025, at the age of 88 years old after a long battle with cancer.

Lorraine will be lovingly remembered by her son Gerry (Terryl), daughter Charmaine (Brian), grandchildren Allissa, Marley, great-grandchildren and many extended family and friends.

Lorraine was predeceased by her husband Marcel of 42 years.

Lorraine was born on August 7, 1937, to Alice and Ovila Major of Vassar Manitoba. The youngest of five children.

Lorraine married her husband Marcel, and worked hard to support their family. They were both humble, generous and loving.

Lorraine was a care aid for most of her working life. Her kindness and empathy to others remained her strength.

As empty nesters they moved to Abbotsford. Reconnected with family and spent time with their grandchildren.

After Marcel passed in 2002, Lorraine joined the Red Hats and travelled. She enjoyed her summers at Great Woods Park in Manitoba.

In 2021 Lorraine developed cancer. She fought a brave battle.

In 2022 she moved into Regency Parkwood in Vernon, where she made many special treasured friends.

Lorraine loved her Wednesday Happy Hours and live music.

She courageously made her own decisions right to the end of her life.

A special thank you to Dr. Shreve and his team. Family doctor Kusselka. All the nurses, nurse practitioners and incredible staff members at Vernon Jubilee Hospital who cared for Lorraine during her six week hospital stay.

There will be no service at this time.

Lorraine will be laid to rest at Musselwhite Cemetery in Abbotsford, next to her beloved husband Marcel in the summer of 2026.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation in her name to the McMurtry-Baerg Cancer Centre in Vernon through the Canadian Cancer Foundation.

Cremation through Pleasant Valley Funeral Home in Vernon, BC.
