JEANNETTE CHAMPAGNE

Born and raised in La Broquerie, Jeannette was deeply rooted in Manitoba's francophone community. She married Alfred Pierre Champagne in 1951, and together they raised seven children while building a life dedicated to education, language, and community. Settling in Saskatoon, Jeannette played a key role in advocating for French-language education and helped establish L'École Canadienne-Française de Saskatoon.

Jeannette worked in French-language radio at CFNS and later spent 20 years as a translator with Radio-Canada in Regina. She was an avid reader, artist, and volunteer, particularly with the MacKenzie Art Gallery and later with Centre Flavie Laurent in Winnipeg, where her charitable work helped expand services for those in need.

She was predeceased by her parents, Elas and Irma Gauthier; her husband Alfred; her son Guy; son-in-law Ralph; and six brothers and four sisters.

Jeannette is survived by her children, Gisèle, Marcel (Kelly), Carmen (Ron), Richard (Gwen), Henri (Lori), and Louis (Jackie); eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; her sister Eliane; sisters-in-law, Monique and Jean; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 24 at 1:00 p.m. at Paroisse Saint-Joachim in La Broquerie. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Centre Flavie Laurent, Winnipeg.
