OLGA STACHOWSKI

1933 - 2025

Olga Stachowski (née Rinas), born October 23, 1933, in Teosin, Poland, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2025, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, with her children by her side.

Olga was predeceased by her beloved husband of 36 years, Hugo Stachowski in 1991.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Monica (Ted) of Ashern; Kathy (Gordon) of Lac du Bonnet; and Eric (Courtney) of North Carolina, along with her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

As a young girl, Olga and her family were displaced by the Second World War, first settling in Germany before she courageously emigrated alone to Canada in 1953. Knowing no English but determined to make a better life, she worked in various positions in Winnipeg, where she met a handsome cabinetmaker, Hugo. They were married on September 3, 1955, beginning a life rooted in family, faith, and hard work.

Olga was the heart of her home. She found joy in gardening, summers at the family cottage at Bird River, farm visits in Ashern, walks in St. Vital Park, golfing, bowling, and her Lutheran church. She was proud of her German heritage and gave generously of her time to the German Society of Winnipeg, including participation in Oktoberfests, Folkloramas and decades singing in the German choir.

Above all, Olga was an Oma in the truest sense, feeding, fussing, and fiercely loving her family. Her kitchen was a place of comfort, filled with potato salad, kuchen, windbeutel, kassler, and cinnamon buns. Olga’s life was defined by resilience, devotion, and quiet strength. She leaves behind a legacy of love, tradition, and family that will endure for generations.

A celebration of life will be held in the spring of 2026.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Olga’s memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, or Actionmarguerite (St. Joseph’s), Winnipeg.
