With broken hearts full of love, we gather to honour the life of Derald Wilson - beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend at 2:00 p.m. on January 16, 2026, at St. Emile Catholic Church.
Derald was born in Atikokan, Ontario, to Doug and Ann Wilson. He often loved to share stories of the adventures he had growing up there.
Derald moved to Winnipeg at the age of 21, where he met his wife Carolyn in 1984. They began dating in 1985, were married in 1989, and share together six children and two grandchildren.
Derald is survived by his loving wife Carolyn, his daughters, Misty, Melissa, and her son Austin, as well as their beloved children together Darlene (Nathan), Diana (Adam) and their children Sophie and Cecelia (Cece), Christine (Alex), Darryl (Ellie), Carrie-Ann (Mike), and Colleen. He is survived by his sister Cindy (Joe), along with his parents-in-law, many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews. Derald is predeceased by his parents, Douglas and Ann, and brother Dave. Words cannot express the loving relationships he had with each family member.
Derald worked for many years as a manager at McDonalds, which is also where he met his wife Carolyn. He formed many life long friendships during his time there, many of whom he came to consider to be like family.
He was so happy in recent years to start his dream job at St. Emile School, working alongside his dear friend Brian. He was surrounded by wonderful staff, who became close friends, and students who brought so much light and joy into his day. He was affectionately known as "Mr. Batman" and the stories that he shared of his time at St. Emile School reflect the positive impact and feeling of community that he had with them.
Derald always put family first and looked forward to every celebration and get-together. Holidays and special occasions were never complete without a family dinner and a gathering afterwards. What better way to celebrate than to gather in the garage to laugh, share stories, and reflect on the day. From birthdays, weddings, and new homes - down to showing everyone the new lights he set up in the garage - everything was a reason to gather. As anyone who knew him knows, visits in the garage were always welcomed.
If anyone called for help Batman was there to save the day. With a heart of gold he showed up ready to paint walls, move furniture, boost a car, or just about anything else. His only question being about hanging out after - the only thing he ever wanted from anyone else was time spent together.
The family is honouring and cherishing his memory by continuing to gather often, while supporting each other. The family deeply appreciates all the love, support, and friendship over the years and especially now.

My heartfelt condolences to your whole family. Derald was an amazing man. I had the privilege of teaching many of his children and I saw first hand how he adored his children. - Posted by: Bonnie Rayner (Friend of family) on: Jan 04, 2026

Words cannot express how much we all miss you Derald. Its unreal how a school full of 500 can suddenly feel empty missing one. Yet in true Derald spirit you mansged to bring us together even in your absense. You were one of the first people to welcome us to the school. Quickly we became friends often chatting until one of us was pulled away. Oh how I will miss our chats! You always had a great story usually about your family. When I heard of your passing I had to read the email about 5 times for my heart to finally accept what my mind was reading. I was all teary and red eyed when someone asked me what was wrong. I said I had lost a friend because that was what you were to so many of us. Then came the question of what did you do at the school? I paused for a second before I responded "he did everything" I replied. A friend to so many, a protector to all, a dedicated employee, an examplery example to our kids of what a true friend and a true family man is. You were there for everyone for everything. You held the hand of a kindergartenr nervous to go to school, you noticed how our kids grew each year (all 500 of them) and you truly cared about each and every child. You were so loved by everyone and I pray that being the ever humble man you were that you had an inkling of the vast and profound affect you had on us all! Anyone who had the pleasure of getting to know you was and will be better for it. So rest in peace my dear friend. Gone too soon but never forgotten. #batman forever ❤️ My deepest condolences to Deralds family. He truly was some of a kind! - Posted by: Rhiannon V (Friend) on: Jan 03, 2026
