Mom was predeceased by our Dad, her husband and life partner, Maurice; her parents, Camiel and Isabelle D’Hoore; her siblings, Léa Gasper and Rodger D’Hoore and her in-laws, Paul and Yvonne Thevenot, Raymond Thevenot, Yvonne and Nelson Lemieux, Paul Thevenot, Doreen Thevenot, Pauline Thevenot, Roger Thevenot, Jerome/Joe Thevenot, Cécile and Tony Grenier, Most Rev. Albert Thevenot M. Afr. and Hervé Dansereau.

Mom was born and raised on a farm just outside of Somerset, attending school in St. Leon at the convent and then in Somerset where she met the love of her life, Maurice. Upon graduating high school and Teachers college they accepted positions teaching in various communities around the province. Over the years they welcomed four daughters, Kathy, Laurie, Yvonne, Darlene and then a son, Maurice Jr. As us children got older, Mom and Dad decided to return to the area to be closer to home, accepting teaching positions in Mariapolis. All the while Mom continued her education, becoming a special ed teacher spending many years at various schools in the area. Upon retiring from teaching they then made their new home just outside of Somerset on the same yard previously occupied by her grandparents.

In her retirement years, Mom enjoyed spending time with family, welcoming grandchildren and then great-grandchildren, gardening, canning, playing the VLTs and then later in life grew to love YouTube and the convenience of email and FaceBook to keep in touch with family and friends. Her meat pies and Christmas cake were a given at Revillion, while carrot cake and icing was a staple at almost every get-together. For many years the annual summer camping trips, mostly to Sprucewoods in the bus they had converted to a camper, were a highlight for the grandchildren.

Mom had a tremendous curiosity and interest in world events, her family, and history. This made the kitchen table the hub of the home and where great conversations, debates and laughs would ebb and flow. We learned and shared so much around that table with Mom, and bonus points if you could manage to stay awake because she truly loved to have those conversations into the wee hours of the night. For those times when we couldn’t be around the table there were the scheduled 6 a.m. emails catching us up on the previous day’s happenings, a custom that mostly grew out of the restrictions created by Covid. These could be lengthy, covering a multitude of topics or whatever latest headline had caught her eye. At times the strings could become very tricky to follow, but for Mom it was like her daily diary and helped her wrap up her day.

After Dad passed away in August, Mom continued to live on the farm, in the house she and Dad had planned and built, right up until her recent hospitalization in Treherne. Having been married for almost 66 years there is no doubt that dad’s passing in August had a profound effect on her – and now, they are once again back where they belong – together for eternity.
