Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPETER JOHN WATSON MACDONALD
Pete died on December 26, 2025, just shy of his 92nd birthday.
He is predeceased by his parents, Walter and Ruth (Watson) Macdonald, and survived by his wife and life partner of 57 years, Maureen; together they made a great team. He is also survived by his daughter, Robin; son, Campbell, daughter-in-law Sharon Friesen; and grandchildren, Benjamin and Zoe.
Pete graduated from Kelvin High School, obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Manitoba, and after articling with Deloitte, Plender, Haskins and Sells, qualified as a Chartered Accountant. He spent two years in the San Francisco office of Haskins and Sells and a year in the Toronto office before returning to Winnipeg where he became a manager and partner. After leaving DLP and S, he worked as a representative for Canadian Scholarship Trust for 15 years and set up a home-based accounting practice which he maintained until he was 85. What Pete loved most about accounting was “the people.”
Pete was active in the Winnipeg community, serving on the boards of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, the Children’s Hospital Foundation and the YM-YWCA, and volunteering in the kitchen at NorWest CO-OP.
Travel and being with family and friends were high on Pete’s priority list. Until 2021, Pete made annual trips to reunite with friends from university and hike together in the Rockies. Pete was an avid golfer and member of the “original” Thursday Thrashers at Niakwa Country Club. Despite occasional lessons and more than 60 years of play, he never managed a hole-in-one. He loved telling stories, an eclectic range of music, creating nicknames and learning. An accountant to the core or a valuer of reciprocity, Pete’s appetite for life was equaled by his generosity. He consistently used his means to uplift other people and projects.
A private interment has taken place at Chapel Lawn Cemetery with arrangements by Hunter Funerals. A gathering to honour and celebrate Pete will be announced at a future date. Memorial donations to Westminster Church Foundation, 745 Westminster Ave. R3J 1A5 would be appreciated.
