BETTY LASCHUK

December 28, 1937 – January 13, 2026

Betty Laschuk (Johnson) left us peacefully for her spiritual journey with family by her side on Tuesday, January 13, 2026.

Left to remember her life and share her memories are her sons Geoffrey (Esther) and Keith (Colleen); daughter-in-law Debbie (Rick); stepson Brian; stepdaughter-in-law Cheryl (Allan); grandchildren Kristin, Samantha, Kristofer, Kaitlin, Tamara, Cody, Timothy and Jason. As well as numerous great-grandchildren and her siblings, Esther, Doris, David and Bill. She was very privileged to share in the lives of many friends in Winnipeg and across Canada.

Betty has gone to reunite with her sons Rick and Donnie; her stepson Allan, and her beloved husband Walter.

Along with her family, Betty came to Winnipeg in 1967 which they could finally call home after ten years of being a Canadian Air Force wife stationed in Ontario, Alberta, France, and Germany.

After upgrading her education, Betty started working with Metropol Investigation and Security as a Payroll Accountant. After 19 years of service, she retired in 1991.

In retirement, she dedicated her life to volunteer work. Her volunteer work included the Manitoba Theatre Center, many years and thousands of hours at the Health Science Center, and the Food Bank at Holy Redeemer Parish. Giving back to the kindness received, she was most passionate in her volunteer work with The Compassionate Friends in Winnipeg who gave back her will after the death of her son Donnie in 1991. From that grief she has helped many families overcome the untimely losses of their children.

In 2010, Betty was honoured with the Premier’s Volunteer Service Award, an honour she accepted graciously. She has always said she does not volunteer for recognition; She volunteers to help others.

From 1971 to 2003, Betty and Walter considered Lake Wanipigow Campsite their second home. Then in 2003, they moved to Montago Bay Campsite and remained there until 2018. Many wonderful memories and very special friendships were formed around a campfire.

The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Parish (264 Donwood Drive, Winnipeg, MB).

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Compassionate Friends as your donation will ensure continued support to bereaved families.
