DOUGLAS DESMOND KUNTZ

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather. After a brief battle with cancer, Doug passed away at Elk Valley Hospital in Fernie, BC on February 25, 2026 at the age of 77 years.

Doug will be forever missed by his wife Gwen; his children, Teresa (Sean), Scott (Aynsley), Leanne (Joe), Kurtis (Jen); his grandchildren, Joey, Tyson, Megan, Spencer, Cooper, Mykayla (Jerrad); his brother Peter (Patti); his sister Fran and many nieces and nephews. Doug will also be missed by his friends from the golf communities in Fernie, BC, Casa Grande, AZ, Calgary, AB and Winnipeg, MB.

Doug was born in Ottawa, ON and his family moved to Winnipeg when he was in grade school. He graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1970. His career in business started in sales, and culminated with he and Gwen owning and operating several successful small businesses. In retirement, he and Gwen spent years as snowbirds, where they made wonderful friends and memories.

Doug was an avid and competitive golfer winning many club championships and competing in several provincial and national events. With all his accomplishments, nothing could compare to sharing his love of the game with his grandchildren. Every time they are on the golf course they will think of Pa with the fondest of memories. In addition to golf, Doug's time in Fernie led him to the joys of many other outdoor hobbies, including fishing, biking and hiking.

The family would like to thank Elk Valley Hospital and the Fernie Palliative Homecare Team for their care, kindness and support.

A celebration of Doug's life will be held at a later date in Fernie, BC.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Elk Valley Hospice, Fernie, BC.
