DORIS EVELYN MONDOR

Doris Evelyn Mondor passed away peacefully in Edmonton, Alberta, at Chartwell Heritage Valley, on Wednesday, March 25, 2026.

Evelyn was born in Lena, Manitoba on November 30, 1932, to Stanley and Tena Smirl. She spent her childhood in Lena and Killarney and moved to Brandon in the 1950s. On October 8, 1960, Evelyn married Emil Mondor, and they were married for 43 years until Dad passed away in 2003. Together they raised their four children: Eugene, Elaine, Evonne, and Edward. Evelyn worked for Eaton's and then the Brandon School Division. With principal John J. Hill, Mom was head secretary and helped open Crocus Plains Regional Secondary High School in 1974. Mom retired from Crocus Plains in 1997.

Mom enjoyed camping at Killarney Lake in the summer and spending time with family. She was a longstanding member of Central United Church and volunteered with Meals on Wheels. She loved her sports and the Winnipeg Jets and Edmonton Oilers were her favorite teams. She was particularly proud of her grandchildren.

Evelyn is survived by her children, Eugene (Phil), Elaine (Michael) Gradidge, Evonne Williams, and Edward (Michelle Tremblay); grandchildren, Scott (Kelly), Matthew (Jennifer) and Lauren Gradidge. She is also survived by her great grandson, Samuel, and nephews and nieces in Canada and the United States.

Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, Stanley and Tena; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gordon Smirl (Audrey) and Mervin Smirl (Margery); and son-in-law Trevor Williams.

Mom will be interred beside our father at the Brandon cemetery later this summer.
