GILCHRIST LORISE ELEANOR

(née OLSON)

May 12, 1955 - March 28, 2026

It is with great grief and sorrow that we announce the passing of Lorise Gilchrist on March 28, 2026. Lorise peacefully passed at Concordia Hospital surrounded by her three daughters and her best friend. She will forever fondly be remembered by her three daughters, Sara (Barret), Kiera (Bryce) and Little Leah (Marc). Her granddaughters, Emerson and Makenna will cherish the time spent with their beloved grandmother.

She is also survived by her siblings, Lynnette and Floyd (Peggy), sister-in-law, Kim, as well as her nieces, nephews and numerous friends. Lorise was predeceased by her dear husband, Dale in 2011. She is also predeceased by her parents (Helen and Henry), her in-laws (Alex and Shirley), her sister-in-law (Linda) and brother-in-law (Robert).

Family was of the utmost importance to Lorise. Lorise and Dale were set-up by a mutual friend on a blind date. They fell in love and married on February 28, 1981. Lorise left her job with the City of Winnipeg in 1983, to focus on being a stay-at-home Mom to Sara and later joined by Kiera and Leah. She was elated to become a grandmother to her two favorite people, Emerson and Makenna. In her later years, she enjoyed spending time with the entire family at the zoo, watching Jets games and family BBQs. She especially enjoyed going on vacation to Florida with Sara, Barret, Emerson and Makenna. She was extremely grateful to visit Florida in March 2020. Had the trip been any later it wouldn’t have happened due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lorise also felt the love and support from her many life-long friends over the years. She enjoyed travels with Susan to Singapore, Indonesia, Ireland and Las Vegas. Lorise’s friendships spanned all the way back to her childhood. Lorise also valued the many friendships and connections she made as a member of Church of the Rock (Northend Campus). These supports provided immense comfort and prayer to Lorise in her short battle with cancer.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the Doctors, nurses and staff that cared for our Mom during her hospitalizations at both Health Sciences Centre and Concordia Hospital, as well as, family physician, Dr. C. Duerksen.

Funeral Service will be held at Glen Lawn Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. If desired, donations can be made in her memory to Assiniboine Park Zoo or Church of the Rock (Northend Campus).
