George didn’t believe much in standing still, and even less in being defined by a single title. Over the course of his life, he was many things: a steady hand, a loud cheer from the stands, a bench-side coach, and, above all, he had a constant opinion for the people he loved.
George was predeceased by his father George Knight, mother Anna Krampetz, and stepfather Fred Porter. His mother-in-law and father-in-law Bruce and Jean Mitchell. He is survived by his beloved wife of over 60 years, Sandra. He is a loving father to daughter Keri Yackel (Ryan) and a proud grandfather to his two beautiful granddaughters Kara and Cailin Yackel. His son Kirk Knight (Susan) and grandchildren Zachary, Alex (Tori), Jessica, and great-grandson Myles. George will be remembered by his sister Beth Spooner, niece Jodi, nephew Jon, and numerous cousins.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday June 20 at 1:00 p.m. at East End Arena Banquet Hall, 517 Pandora Avenue East.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Winnipeg Foundation for the creation of the Coach George Knight Memorial Fund.
