Surrounded by her loving family, Amelia Romeo passed away peacefully on March 29, 2026.
Amelia will be lovingly remembered and profoundly missed by her daughters, Caterina Romeo-Mzakar (Ben Mzakar) and Linda Romeo (Todd Bezak), and by her cherished grandchildren, Alexa and Noah. She also leaves to mourn her sisters-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins in Italy, and many dear friends in Canada.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Antonio Romeo; parents, Teodolinda and Mariano Siciliano; brothers, Egidio Siciliano (late Frances) and Gerardo Siciliano (Giovanna); sister Raffaella Capozzi (late Alberto Capozzi); sister-in-law Angelina Allegro (late Joe Allegro); and brothers-in-law, Joseph Romeo and Angelo Romeo (Rosetta).
Amelia was born on April 2, 1940, in Castrolibero, Cosenza, Italy. In 1960, she immigrated to Winnipeg to join her brothers. She married Antonio in 1964, and together they built a beautiful life, raising their two daughters with love and devotion.
A skilled seamstress by trade, Amelia learned her craft in Italy and carried her talent with pride throughout her life. She found great joy in sharing meals and laughter with family and friends and remained deeply connected to her Italian heritage. She lived an active life.
Fiercely independent and an advocate for the most vulnerable, Amelia was generous, loving, and delightfully spirited. She was a natural leader and brought warmth and energy wherever she went. Her wonderful sense of humour, sharp wit and contagious smile brightened the lives of all who knew her.
Affectionately known as "Nanna", she took immense pride in her grandchildren and supported them wholeheartedly in their many interests and pursuits. Her love extended beyond her family, as she became a "Mamma" or "Nonna" figure to many who were fortunate enough to have her in their lives.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Saint Boniface Hospital (5B and 8) for their care and compassion.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Avenue, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at Chapel of Eternal Memories Mausoleum, 1501 Waverley Street.
Pallbearers will be Andrew Mauthe, Nicolas Siciliano, Daniel Vieira, Carson Tucker, Boubacar Basse, Mohamed O. Moulaye, Ibrahim C. Moulaye and Christian Régnier.
