SUSAN JOAN (BAIN) PIPER

Another angel has ascended. Susan Joan, born in Ottawa on September 23, 1943, to Gordon and Natalie (Dolly) Bain, succumbed to a lengthy battle with cancer.



Sue is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Bob, just shy of their 62nd anniversary; children Rob (Tannis) and Colleen (David Ingram); her brother D'Arcy Bain; her grandchildren Chad, Megan, Madison Piper (Josh Bedard), Brett and Brynne Ingram, and great-granddaughter Rosie.

Following golf pro Gordon's travels, Sue lived in Geraldton, then Fort William. She married Bob in 1964, and together they graduated in 1965 with the first Arts degrees awarded by Lakehead University. They moved to Winnipeg later that same year.

Sue, who has always been a "person for others" reminded us all to "be kind, and show compassion", words which displayed her modus operandi to the world around her. Whether it was in the classroom, in the Fort Garry School Division and at Balmoral Hall School, Sue spread that kindness and compassion to hundreds of children in her care.



At St. Paul's Anglican Church, where she has been active since 1965, Sue has participated in all aspects of church life - Christian Education, Chancel Guild, Outreach Projects (particularly the Thelma Wynne Baby Shower project), Parish Council and People's Warden. Sue loved the church kitchen, from serving on the new kitchen committee to serving coffee, organizing dinners, setting up funeral gatherings and serving at the Seniors' Dinners. St. Paul's has offered a lifetime of opportunities to worship and share with many.

Sue's commitment to others extended through volunteer work with Meals on Wheels, refugee support, and serving on Boards like Fort Garry Family Life, Westgate Mennonite Collegiate and the Balmoral Hall Archives; hosting the Wildwood Park Janes Walk events, hosting Coffee and Conversation times in her condo community, making hundreds of loaves of sandwiches to distribute to wildfire and flood refugees, and helping out wherever she saw a need.



Sue and Bob cherished over 30 summers at Spruce Lake, near Kenora, welcoming family and friends. She also valued lasting friendships through her book club and a 50+ year dinner group.

The family thanks their many friends, especially Tim, Irene, Karen and Peg and express their gratitude for the dedication of Dr. Popowich, the CancerCare team, and the compassionate staff at the Vic, and on Sb of the Women's Hospital.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, April 17, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Anglican Church, Fort Garry (North Drive at Point Road).
