KATHERINE (KATHY) RUTH CAMERON

(nee CRAIK)

August 18, 1959 - April 17, 2026

With loved ones by her side, Kathy Cameron passed away on April 17, 2026, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Kathy was born to Ruth and Gerry Craik on August 18, 1959, and was raised in Virden, Manitoba, where she graduated in 1977. She began her career as a Program Coordinator at Hillcrest Nursing Home before marrying her husband, Stewart, in October 1980. Together they made their home in Forrest, where Kathy operated the local post office, expanding it into a valued community hub by offering milk, bread and video rentals.

Kathy was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She and Stewart welcomed their daughter Sarah in 1983 and their son Tom in 1984. She was deeply involved in her community, her church, and her children’s activities, and supported Stewart in their photography business for many years. Kathy later worked as a custodian in Rolling River School Division, retiring in 2022.

In 1998, Kathy was diagnosed with cancer and faced it with fierce determination. Following her treatment, she became a dedicated member of the Waves of Hope dragon boat team, where she paddled and later served as a steersperson for over two decades.

Kathy will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Stewart; her daughter, Sarah Cameron (Trevor Teall); grandchildren Willa, Petra, and Alec Saley; her son, Tom (Ayn) Cameron; grandchildren Clara, Rosalie, and Lincoln Cameron; her sister, Stephanie (Kelly) Cole; numerous extended family members; and many, many friends and community members.

Our family is profoundly grateful to the many nurses and physicians who cared for Kathy. Their compassion, gentle care, and unwavering advocacy ensured her comfort and gave us more treasured time together.

A celebration of Kathy’s life will be held at Trinity United Church in Brandon on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. The service is open to all who would like to pay their respects.

In memory of Kathy, donations may be made to the Waves of Hope Breast Cancer Research Fund in support of the “Hope in our Backyard” campaign. The campaign supports breast cancer research at Brandon University, led by Dr. Majumder, focusing on early detection and more effective, less toxic treatments. Donations may be sent to Box 358, Shoal Lake, Manitoba, R0J 1Z0. Cheques payable to “Waves of Hope,” designated to Research.

Kathy’s strength, love, and unwavering spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished, the community she helped build, and the countless lives she touched.
