Arthur "Art" Maxwell Height was born on April 24, 1946, in Port Arthur, Ontario to Percy and Gladys Height. He passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 6, 2026, in Crystal City, Manitoba, at the age of 79, after a brief battle with cancer.
Art is remembered by his wife of 50 years, Ann; his children, Dave (Sherrie), Darren (Brooke), Diane (BJ); his grandchildren, Avery, Rachel, Taylor, Jordan, Kelsey and Riley; his niece Dawn (Marc); his brother-in-law Stan (Michelle); and his sister-in-law Chris (Sue). He was predeceased by his parents, Percy and Gladys; brother Rodney; sister Fern; niece Monique; his nephew, Shane; and grandchildren, Rylan and Camryn.
After graduating from Hammarskjold High School, Art held a variety of jobs, including working at the Pool elevator in the marina, before beginning a long and dedicated career with the Royal Bank. Over the course of 42 years, he served in numerous roles and lived in many communities. He began his career with the bank in Thunder Bay in 1966 and in 2008 retired in Crystal City.
It was during his time in Kenora that Art met Ann. They were married in July 1975 and had already begun building their family, welcoming sons, Dave and Darren, followed a few years later by their daughter Diane.
Art was deeply engaged in the communities where he lived and worked. He believed strongly in giving back and being a part of the communities that he lived in. Over the years, he volunteered his time serving on numerous different committees, boards, and service clubs. Along the way, forming lasting friendships, creating cherished memories in every community that he lived in.
Art enjoyed spending his summers on the golf course and this held true when he retired. With all the golf he played that summer I am sure if you asked him what his handicap was he'd say that it was his wood and irons, not an actual score.
However, his retirement from work was short lived. Looking for something to occupy his time, Art started bartending in Cartwright and then in Pilot Mound for several years until he retired for good in 2018.
In keeping with Art's wishes, he was cremated and a private ceremony was held on April 24, which would have been his 80th birthday.
