Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOAN DIANE BROWN
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joan Diane Brown on April 29, 2026, following a brief yet courageous battle with cancer.
Joan was predeceased by her parents, Edward (Ted) and Ruth Miles and stepmother, Ellen, and by her beloved daughter, Jennifer Gerus (Brown).
She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her devoted husband, Roger; her loving daughter, Caroline; her cherished granddaughters Natasia and Elise; and her siblings: Brian Miles (Emily), Robert Miles (Joan), Nancy Warden (Randy), Grant Miles (Laura), and Karen Stevens-Chambers (Russ), and her extended family and friends.
Joan dedicated her career to teaching and to special education, a field in which she made a lasting impact and truly excelled. In 2011, she chose to retire to care for her daughter in her final months, and to support her granddaughter, Natasia, which reflected her unwavering love and selflessness.
Joan and Roger shared a love of travel and adventure, exploring destinations across South America, Asia, Europe, and Africa, along with many trips to Hawaii, which held a special place in their hearts.
In her later years, Joan found great joy in playing pickleball, where she treasured not only the game itself but also the friendships and sense of community it brought into her life.
Joan will be remembered for her strength, compassion, and the deep love she had for her family. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue.
In appreciation of the exceptional care provided, and in place of flowers, donations may be made to palliative care at the Riverview Health Centre Foundation.
