ROBERT HARVEY

November 30,1952 - April 30, 2026

With deep sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Robert "Rob" Harvey, aged 73, at Riverview Health Centre on April 30, 2026, following his diagnosis of dementia eight years ago.

He will be deeply missed by his partner Marie "Mar" whose dedicated care and devotion ensured Rob was comfortable at all times; his close friend Steve Power (Bonny) and family, and many, many friends too numerous to name, that had the good fortune to know him and to share many a good time with him over the years.

He was predeceased by his parents, John and Margaret, his brother Don and his Uncle Jack with whom he had a very special bond.

Rob grew up in East Kildonan; attended Miles Mac school. During his school days, Rob joined Sea Cadets where he learned to play trumpet. His first job following school, was at Gondola Pizza. He spoke very fondly of those days as that was where a lot of friendships began that continued to this day. It was with his Gondola buddies attending Blue Bomber games that Rob became Captain Blue for the Bombers energizing the crowd with his trumpet playing and making his claim to fame in CFL annals.

Everywhere Rob went he made lasting friendships which was very telling by the number of friends that kept in contact up to his passing. Rob’s career began with Greater Winnipeg Gas Company as a meter reader and continued with Centra Gas Energy Services and Sales. He retired from Manitoba Hydro as Energy Services and Sales Coordinator (Selkirk Office) in 2014.

After relocating to the Selkirk Office, Rob decided to follow his dream to live by the lake building his dream house where the family cottage stood in Matlock. Rob truly loved lakeside living and many a friend enjoyed his hospitality: good food, great music and many nights by the fire watching the stars. Due to health changes, Rob moved back to Winnipeg in 2020. A highlight for Rob was visiting Ireland with Mar and being warmly welcomed by her large family. As is often said "he became more Irish than the Irish themselves" as he was welcomed by both Mar’s family and friends. Annual trips to Clear Lake were very special to Rob and were always well planned.

A very special thanks is given to Marie Brock who, as Rob’s caregiver for five years became an integral part of Rob’s daily care and was like family to him and Mar providing great support to both. Special thanks are also extended to Phil Hayes who became a companion and provided care to Rob over the last few years. To the staff on 3CD at Riverview - thank you all for the care that was provided to Rob over these three and a half years.

A celebration of Rob’s life will be held at Thomson "In the Park" on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Manitoba Alzheimer Society; Riverview Health Centre Foundation or a charity of your choice.
