ROSE SLATER

March 15, 1929 - May 7, 2026


It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother (Baba) Rose (Cherpako) Slater on May 7, 2026 at Park Manor Care Facility.

Rose was the oldest child of Dmytro and Mary (Gusnoski) Cherpako. She was predeceased by Bill her husband of 38 years, parents, Dmytro and Mary, mother-in-law Susan, sons, Herbert and Kenneth, brothers, John (Diane), Henry (Marilyn), and many other family members.

Rose is survived by sons, Garry (Shirley), Derrick (Rowena), sister Lorraine Germain, 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Rose grew up on the family farm in Pineridge and the municipality of St. Clements. She moved to Winnipeg where she met and married the love of her life Bill Slater in 1950. They built their forever home on Regent Avenue in Transcona and had four sons: Herbert, Kenneth, Garry and Derrick. Rose was a long-time employee at the Rayovac battery factory until it closed, she then worked and retired from the Transcona Jaycees Day Care.

Rose was involved in many committees and groups, 1st Transcona Scouts Association and became a life member, St. George's Anglican Church, Columbus Villa, St. Michael’s Friendly Settlers and perogy group, to mention a few.

Rose enjoyed camping, travelling, bowling, playing cards, shuffleboard and family get togethers.

The family wishes to thank the staff and volunteers at Park Manor Personal Care Facility for their loving and wonderful care for the past 11 years.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at Green Acres Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rose’s name to the charity of your choice.
