Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • I met Garth in the late 1960's or early 70's in Winnipeg. He worked with a friend of mine on the railway track crew. We both played a little guitar and Garth went on to excel more so than I. We both relocated to Vancouver where he met his beautiful future wife Lorraine (who was from Winnipeg). Lorraine and Garth worked their way back to Winnipeg via Keremeos B.C. They were shortly married in Winnipeg and I was so grateful he asked me to be his best man. I continued to live on BC and he and Lorraine made home with the boys in Winnipeg. Garth could learn to do anything he set his mind to and do it well as evidenced by his guitar playing, wood carving and playing the bag pipes. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends and it was my pleasure to have know him and be good friends with him ! Rock on Garth ! - Posted by: Roy Guarino (Friend since 1968 and his Best Man) on: May 21, 2026

  • Sorry for the loss of a great and talented man - had the pleasure of having a cottage across from Garth and his wife, where we spent lots of time hunting for “the perfect tree” for his carvings - many neighbours stopping to see him working on his latest creation, including a large carving that stands at the entrance to Grindstone park. Peace be the journey, my friend. - Posted by: Tim Melnyk (Cottage neighbor) on: May 16, 2026

  • I worked with Garth at Univar for many years enjoying our conversations and interactions! He was a teddy bear in coveralls! The retiree group looked forward to Garth’s presence at our frequent luncheons. You will me missed by all Garth. Lorraine and family please accept my sincere condolences. - Posted by: karen asgeirson (Friend) on: May 16, 2026

  • Garth was a super nice person, and well-liked by all of us at Univar. Not only was he a gifted wood artist, he was a great storyteller. We will truly miss seeing him at our retiree luncheon. - Posted by: Linda prociuk (Co worker) on: May 16, 2026

  • Very sorry to hear of your brothers passing Vince. - Posted by: Howard Craig (Friend) on: May 16, 2026
