BARBARA LYNN ROYAL

Barbara Lynn Royal (née Gerus), born April 26, 1962, passed away on May 26, 2026, surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Barb was the loving wife of Terry Royal for 46 years, and his partner in life for 50 years. Together, they built a life full of family, laughter, time spent outdoors and Rockin' The Fields of Minnedosa.

Barb was the daughter of Margaret and Edward Gerus, and is survived by her children Aaron, (Matthew) and Sarah, her grandchildren, Catelyn, Ayla, Jack, Esmé, and Jayde, and a soon to arrive great-granddaughter. She is also survived by her wonderful sister Tracy (Russell) and dedicated brother Darryl (Dawne) and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Barb worked for 20 years with the Sheriff's Department in Thompson, where she was respected for her dedication and kindness.

She loved being outside, especially fishing and camping at Paint Lake, Birds Hill and Grand Beach. She found a lot of joy in nature. Her favourite things were growing flowers in her garden and feeding the birds. She also had a big love for cats, dogs, and all wildlife. She and her dog Charlie loved spending time together watching TV, and she always caught more fish than Terry did.

The family would like to sincerely thank the nurses, doctors, and support staff at Thompson General Hospital and CancerCare Manitoba for their care and compassion. Even when severely understaffed and overworked they were there for us.

Barbara will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her. She would appreciate donations to an animal rescue charity near you. In her honour please support your local garden centre and add a perennial to your garden this spring.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Dear Terry, Aaron, Sarah and families; Tracy and Russ; Darryl, Dawne and family: My deepest condonlences in the passing of Barb. Although we haven't seen each other for years, we started communicating though texts several years ago. I truly enjoyed all the pictures she shared of her chiildren, grandchildren, and adventures at the lake. I will always cherish my memories of the many Christmases and summers together. One of my favourite pictures was when we were all younger and at Baba and Gigi's suntanning on the lawn after playing in the pool/sprinkler. The joy and happiness seen on Barb's face says everything. I also want to thank her for introducing me to Dr. Hook. Everytime I play their songs, I see myself in Barb's bedroom. Barb was a beautiful, courageous, and strong person. She fought a hard fight to get more time with her family. I pray you rest in peace as you are welcomed home by Ed and Marge and the rest of the family. I hope your memories of Barb will help you get through this difficult time and may they bring you comfort and peace. This is not good-bye, but until we meet again! - Posted by: Dawn Tarnowski (Cousin) on: Jun 03, 2026
