Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJEAN-MARIE AULD
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Jean-Marie Auld, who passed away at St. Boniface Hospital on May 20, 2026. Jean-Marie was known to all those around her as warm, kind, curious and undeniably lovely. Jean-Marie was born on October 13, 1936, in Winnipeg, where she attended high school at Glenlawn Collegiate. In 1957 she graduated from the Winnipeg General Hospital School of Nursing, becoming a Head Nurse at the Winnipeg General Hospital; also working as a Nurse in England and Australia. In 1970 Jean-Marie earned a Bachelor of Nursing from the University of Manitoba, after which she continued working as a Head Nurse at the Health Sciences Centre until her retirement in 2002.
Jean-Marie’s love of travel took her to Russia, Spain, Greece, Japan, Malaysia, China and East Africa. She loved new adventures, new experiences and meeting new people. Those who knew her, even briefly, were aware of her genuine curiosity and interest in people’s lives. She became fast friends with all she met and had an impact on each person she interacted with. Jean-Marie loved spending time with family and friends and entertaining in her home and at her beloved cabin at Royal Lake. She was enthusiastic about food, music, mystery novels and mystery television. She also was a lifelong pet lover, taking in many dogs over the years as well as her brother David’s cat. You could always count on her to have a dog biscuit in her pocket or bag at all times, just in case. Jean-Marie’s active spirit was not dimmed later in life. She continued to regularly play bridge, participated in senior’s clubs, exercise classes and in multiple dining groups and nursing alumni reunions. She was a regular patron of the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre and Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and a supporter of the Winnipeg Humane Society, Harvest Manitoba and many other charitable organizations.
Jean-Marie is predeceased by her parents Dave and Jessie and her dear brother David. She is survived by family in Manitoba, Ontario, Alberta and Scotland and by countless friends. She was courageous, loving, funny, strong-willed and full of joy. She possessed a tenacity that showed what can be accomplished with determination and persistence. Her selflessness, warmth and generous spirit will be remembered forever. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength and compassion that will live on in her family and friends. She will be missed dearly.
A celebration of Jean-Marie’s life will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., in the reception room of Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Ave at Henderson Hwy in Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please consider making a donation to Harvest Manitoba, Siloam Mission or the Winnipeg Humane Society in her honour.

I met Jean-Marie at the Windsor Community Center when I was involved with the seniors group there. I met her via other people I had just met. In a word Jean-Marie was vibrant. She loved life and I believe she lived it to her full potential. Everyone loved her exuberance, her smile and her laughter. She lives on in my heart and all those lives she touched. Sincere condolences to her family and friends. Sherry Liley - Posted by: Sherry Liley (Friend) on: Jun 17, 2026

Jean was more like family than just a friend. She went to nursing school with my Mom (Diane Falk) so she was part of our family for many years. She was so kind and thoughtful, always keeping in touch and wanting to know how we were doing. She spoke at my wedding and of course wearing a big beautiful hat that matched her personality. She was also a big part of my Mom's Mother Rene McDiarmid. She spoiled my children every Christmas and sent gifts that my adult kids now remember vividly. She was so positive and such a caring person and we will truly miss her.We send our condolences to her remaining family and to all her friends in Winnipeg and afar. I was lucky enough to have Jean Marie land In my chair when a co worker went on Mat leave and we spent the next 15+ years together every 5 weeks for a couple of hours. To know Jean was to love her! I looked forward to every appointment with Jean as did everyone in the shop. She genuinely cared about each and every person she met. Never forgetting anything you shared with her and always making sure to check in on how you were doing and how anyone important in your life was also doing. We were often spoiled by Jean’s kindness with doughnuts for all the girls, treats at Christmas and thoughtful gifts for my daughter. Her infectious smile and laughter will be so very missed by all of us at Cutting Loose! - Posted by: Keiden (Jean’s hairstylist) on: Jun 13, 2026

I first met Jean-Marie playing bridge with a seniors group at Southdale Community Club. I remember we were discussing all the rabbits around and I jokingly said "We must live in the same neighbourhood." It turns out we did as she lived less than a block away from me. The pandemic put a stop to our bridge mornings but I would frequently see Jean-Marie's little red car stop at our neighbourhood post boxes. If I happened to be out I would always say hi to her. I always got a great big smile and hello. I knew it had been some time since I had seen her and this obituary tells me why. She was a ray of sunshine to many and will be missed. - Posted by: Wendy Barker (Friend) on: Jun 12, 2026

Jean Marie leaves a lasting legacy among the nursing community and her 1957 nursing classmates. She was kind, caring, knew everyone by name, and “would help everybody.” She was always supportive of student nurses who did their practical experience on her ward. She maintained contact with her nursing classmates over the years and attended nursing reunions on a regular basis. She will be missed when the class of 1957 gathers to celebrate their 70th year since graduation in May 2027. - Posted by: Carol Galbraith (Friendship Convenor Winnipeg General Hospital/ Health Sciences Centre Nurses Alumni Association) on: Jun 08, 2026

Jean, during the time we worked together at the Health Sciences Centre on MS3 and GA1, I truly enjoyed working with you. You always had amazing stories and great advice, especially when you returned from one of your elaborate vacations. I was always eager to hear all about them. You had such a zest for life and were a beautiful person, both inside and out. You were kind, humble, and brought joy to those around you. You will be deeply missed. Rest easy, my friend. Until we meet again. 🙏🏼😔 ❤️ Sally Pavao - Posted by: Sally Pavao (Coworker/friend) on: Jun 08, 2026

I spent my childhood in winnapeg and was lucky enough to have Jean Maria and David as part of our extended family. Every summer Jean Maria would take me and my 2 sisters out to David's cabin and and the memories I have are way too many to go in to but we always had a great time. Jean Maria took me under her wing to get me helping her to make cocktails something she was great at doing. I've not seen her since I moved back to Scotland nearly 40 years ago but up until my mother died 3 years ago we where still in contact with her. I know loosing David was hard on her but i bet she was still the heart and sole of any room she was in. Miss you all terrible till we all meet again love you all - Posted by: Adiel Dow (Family friend) on: Jun 07, 2026

You always knew Jean when she was coming down a hallway at HSC. Tall. Admired. Often a nursing cap on her head! And the biggest smile you have ever seen. RIP Jean. - Posted by: Trish Bergal (Colleague) on: Jun 06, 2026

I have known Jean for over 40 years. She was a first class nurse and was a mentor for me. I remember when she was head nurse on A6. She truly embodied the spirit of a nurse. In later life I ran into her at Sunday pops music at the symphony. She would stand up and wave and we would talk down the aisles. Rest in piece Jean. You have lived a wonderful life life. - Posted by: Rene Weinstein (Nurse) on: Jun 06, 2026
