In Loving Memory
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Phillip Noonan on June 19, 2026, at the age of 78.
Phil was born in Winnipeg and grew up in Wildwood Park. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 52 years, Judy Nixon; along with his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, extended family, and many dear friends. Phil was predeceased by his loving mother and father, Nancy and Bernard Noonan.
Phil lived a life filled with passion, curiosity, and an unwavering love for the people closest to him. He will be remembered for his warm heart, his quick wit, and his remarkable ability to make family and friends feel connected, no matter the miles or the years between them.
Phil loved photography and music, music was truly the soundtrack of Phil’s life. He was known for having one of the largest and most diverse music collections among those who knew him. His appreciation for music crossed every genre and generation, and he found great joy in sharing favourite songs, discovering new artists, and introducing others to his favourite musicians including Jimi Hendrix. Phil’s collection reflected not only his incredible knowledge of music but also his belief that every song could tell a story.
From the time he was 11 years old, Brereton Lake in the Whiteshell held a special place in Phil’s heart. Summers at the lake became a lifelong tradition, filled with laughter, gathering of family and friends, good food, plenty of wine, and unforgettable memories. It was a place where he felt truly at home and shared this with many who visited and hold fond memories to today.
Phil had a passion for fine wine and was considered a wine connoisseur by many. Whether enjoying a special vintage or sharing a bottle over a meal with family and friends, he believed the best moments in life were those spent together.
Phil treasured his family and friends. He made it a priority to stay connected, he acknowledged the milestones and never missed an opportunity to check in and have a chat. His thoughtfulness, and genuine interest in others, created many lasting friendships.
Although Phil’s favourite songs may have come to an end, the music he loved, the memories he created, and the love he shared will continue in the hearts of all who knew him and he will be deeply missed.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation for the doctors, nurses, and the home-care professionals who cared for Phil over the past few years.
There will be no formal service.

What a lovely tribute to Phil and apologies for my late response. My heartfelt condolences go out to Judy. As well as all those grieving the loss of Phil in their lives. Phil grew up near to where I did in Fort Garry and our paths crossed many times through different classrooms and various friend groups. Eventually those circumstances were limited by my living away from Winnipeg for about 46 years. I was very fortunate to encounter Phil, and then Judy, at the delayed VMC reunion in 2022. Or should I say, that Phil chose to approach me to address some of our history. We had a good a good chat and I very much appreciated his reflections on our shared past. Our condolences, Judy, on the passing of your Loved-One. Phil was a true bon-vivant. He was generous in sharing his passions for art, music, great food and fine wine, even with a certain impressionable younger brother of his university friends. His wedding gift to Karen and me was a wonderful 2-album set of Thelonious Monk tributes by those who loved him. One piece in particular reminds me of Phil every time I play it - "Mysterioso", arranged by Carla Bley, brilliantly realized by the cream of jazz players. Creative, colourful, full of beauty, elegiacal. May the memory of Phil strengthen you and sustain you, and may it inspire us to perform acts of lovingkindness of the sort Phil performed.
