DONNA MAE LAND

Donna Mae Land (McLennan), 86, of Winnipeg, Manitoba peacefully passed away on July 17, 2026, at Riverview Health Centre, after a brief illness, surrounded by her loved ones.

Donna was born on April 8, 1940, in Neepawa, MB to John Andrew (born in Berton, MB) and Marjorie Lillian (Russell) (born in Oxbow, SK) McLennan. Donna grew up in Helston, MB, with her sister Lynn, where their father owned the Helston General Store as the general merchant and postmaster. She attended the Gladstone Collegiate Institute where she was awarded the Governor General’s Medal in Grade 11 and was Valedictorian at Grade 12 graduation in 1958. She moved to Winnipeg in 1959 to attend the Winnipeg General Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1962 with the Sellers and Smith General Proficiency Medal and scholarships. Donna worked at the Winnipeg General Hospital (Health Sciences Centre Winnipeg) from 1962 until her retirement in 1995. During her 33-year career she served in many positions but was brought the most joy by her final 14 years as the Patient Care Planner and Senior Project Officer in the Physical Planning Department.

Donna met the love of her life, Barry Land, on a blind date in February of 1975, which led to their marriage on October 2, 1982. Prior to Barry’s passing in 2015, their happy marriage of 32 years was filled with golfing, dancing, gardening, vacationing in Florida and Gull Lake, spending 18 winters in Texas and enjoying countless hockey weekends with their grandsons. Donna, along with Barry, were members of several Winnipeg and Texas golf courses where she served on various boards and councils. Although Barry (Bumpa) was only able to meet one of his great-grandchildren, Donna (Meme) enjoyed every minute she was able to spend with all her great-grandchildren.

Donna is predeceased by her husband Barry Land, mother Marjorie McLennan, father John McLennan, sister-in-law Valerie Brooks, sister-in-law Gail Duncan, brother-in-law Karel Van Helden, brother-in-law Wayne Wolanski and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Donna is survived by her daughter Cheryl (Ryan) Hoffmann, son-in-law Tomi (Sherry) Roinila, grandsons Matti (Laura) Roinila and Jari (Taylor) Roinila, step-grandsons Marcus Hoffmann and Chris Hoffmann, step-granddaughter Emily Hoffmann, great-granddaughters Everly Roinila and Olivia Roinila, great-grandsons Veli Roinila, Leo Roinila and Olli Roinila, step-great-grandchildren Maelle, Robert, Kaylin and Dale Hoffmann, sister Lynn Van Helden, sister-in-law Donna Wolanski, brother-in-law Gary Brooks, nieces Brenda (Garth) Fenton and children, Deborah (Corey) Hummeston and children and Karolyn (Ryan) Forsythe and children, nephews David (Jen) Duncan and children, Rob (Debbie) Duncan and children, Michael (Stacy) Wolanski and children and Michael Van Helden and children.

A come and go Celebration of Donna’s Life will be held on Monday, August 10, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Time will be provided for anyone wishing to share memories and stories.
