MARIE ROONEY

Our lives are like quilts-made up of many pieces. From the day of our birth, every hour, every day, every month and every year. Every little scrap, every shape, every texture, every thread of any color put together with tiny stitches that become our life. The people we cross paths with become our pattern. There are times when we have to rip out a seam and repair a mistake. We all make mistakes and some we cannot fix as simply as others. We must strive to do better. Also remember, the above applies to you too as part of someone else’s life. You are part of their life.

I was born December 16, 1942, in St. Boniface Hospital to Donat and Marie (Mulroy) Hamel. I was raised in St. Vital along with my brothers Wayne (2017) and Don. I also had a half-sister Pearl Hamel in the USA (2010), half-brother Edward Hamel in St. James (1989) and half-brother Mickey Mulroy in Saskatchewan - BC (2005).

In 1965 I married Roy Hilton. We had two children. Sheila in 1966 and Gordon in 1967. We divorced in 1979.

In 1986 I married Terry Rooney. In 2010 I retired and we moved to Winnipeg Beach. I took up quilting in Gimli and Winnipeg Beach making many new friends.

Throughout my life, there are three special friends I wish to acknowledge in order of time. First, my cousin Peggy, second childhood school friend Louise and later on my tall sister Joan. They have been with me on this journey of life. I love them all.

I leave my children, daughter Sheila (Ed) Babineau and her children, Roy and Alex Boyd and my son Gordon and his son Justin.

We shall never die but live on in the hearts of those we love. I will be interred with my mother and my grandparents in Kamsack, Saskatchewan (Old ST SY BK Lot 22).

I have made many choices in my life, not all good. Sometimes I wish I could have changed some. I have been far from perfect. Please forgive my actions. I have not intended to hurt anyone.

If you are reading this and you can still have your mother, tell her you love her. Remember that you are the only person who knows what she sounds like from inside. Her heartbeat is the first sound you heard in your life.
