for the celebration of Bruce's life at

Green Acres Funeral Home,

August 28 at 10:00 a.m.



In loving memory of Bruce Owen Johnston, who peacefully passed away on July 31, 2026, at the age of 89. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a life well-lived.  

Bruce will be deeply missed by his devoted partner Laura, married 68 years; children, Dawn, Kathleen, and Owen (Tannis) who brought him the challenges and joys of being a father. Through them his grandchildren, Sara (James), Owen (Kimberly), Caitlin (Gianpaolo) Ian, Christina, and Anna (Malcom), and Alice (Megan). Also, great-grandchildren; Samuel and Jack, Elliot and Theodore, and Remy. He will be missed by his little sister Barbara Ann (Michael); and sisters-in-law Charlotte, and Verna; also brother-in-law Donald (Patricia). Extended family will also cherish memories of him.

He was predeceased by brothers, Stewart (Joan), Brian, and Gordon (Eloise); and sons-in-law, Alan and Jean Marc.

Born on July 26, 1937, Bruce was multi-faceted, he excelled in occupations academic and practical. He earned Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral Degrees. He became a University Professor and taught Statistics for many years at the University of Manitoba. He built a cottage that became a year-round home. He loved gardening and produced food for multitudes.

Bruce's life took a beautiful turn when he met his high school sweetheart, Laura Ruth Clark, leading to their 68 year marriage. Together, they shared years of love, commitment, world travel and countless cherished moments.

Upon retirement, Bruce and Laura settled into lake life and city life, relishing 25 years in the embrace of family and community in Winnipeg and Kenora’s cottage country. Bruce loved having fun and being with family and friends, spending his evenings filled with laughter and stories. All the while he remained connected to his academic life as a professor emeritus and active member of the Alumni Association.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Bruce's memory.

A celebration of Bruce's life will take place at Green Acres Funeral Home, August 28 at 11:00 am.
