Dr. Jeffrey “Jeff” James Wiebe, 93, of Palm Harbor, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on September 3, 2026, at St. Mark Village’s Care Center. He was the dearly loved husband of Jorlean, his wife of 67 years. Jeff was born August 21, 1933, in Steinbach, Manitoba, Canada, to Bernard and Katarina Wiebe.
Jeff spent his career at the meeting point of education, technology and faith. He was a professor at the University of Minnesota, Crookston campus. He also worked with the Minnesota Governor’s Planning Office to develop two-way communication systems for education.
Later he led a group of 30 Christian organizations planning to use NASA’s first direct broadcasting satellite to bring health, education and gospel programming to developing countries. He went on to serve as Head of the Counseling Department at St. Petersburg College in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Before the family moved to Florida, Jeff directed summer camps. He spent nine summers at Red Rock Bible Camp in Rennie, Manitoba, and also led Camp Bethel in Shell, Wyoming, and Bluewater Covenant Bible Camp in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. Wherever the family lived, he served his church as a board member, elder or deacon. Most recently he was a deacon at Calvary Church in Clearwater, Florida.
Jeff leaves his wife, Jorlean, and a family who praise God for his life well lived. That family includes his daughters, Sandra Thiessen (Glen) of Centennial, Colorado, and Nancy Mazurowski (Steve) of Chicago, Illinois, and his son, Tom Wiebe (Michelle) of Oldsmar, Florida. He also leaves seven grandchildren: Matt Thiessen (Liz); Melissa Link (Ken, deceased); Logan Thiessen (Kadi); Kelly Wallenburg (Bear); and Cameron, Carson and Cadyn Wiebe. His six great-grandchildren are Levi and Lexi Thiessen; Emery, Penni and Riley Wallenburg; and Walter Jeffrey Thiessen.
Jeff was predeceased by his parents and by his brother, Willard, who died in infancy. His three sisters also died before him: Helen (Jay Delkin), Laura (Eric Menno Reimer, deceased) and Myrna (Earl Kalbfleisch, deceased).
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 14, 2026, at St. Mark Village in Palm Harbor, Florida. Interment will be at Curlew Hills Memorial Gardens, 1750 Curlew Road, Palm Harbor, FL 34683.
