Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY PROKOPCHUK Our Beloved Baba After a brief illness, on Friday, September 10, 1999 at the Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg, in the presence of her family, our devoted Mother and Baba passed away. Mom was born on August 22, 1919 in Garland, Manitoba to Anton and Josephine Sloniowski. She married Stan Prokopchuk on November 19, 1939 in Sifton where they farmed and raised their family. She was predeceased by Stan in 1993 after 54 years of marriage; her father and mother Anton and Josephine; two sisters, Emily (Chris) Polloway and Patsy (John) Blogowski. Leaving to cherish her memory forever are her children and their families, Lavina (Michael) Melchiondo of Pennsylvania, children Elana, Mickey and Jennifer, Anita of Winnipeg, Leonard (Lorraine), children Alaina and James, Fred of Sifton, children Carla, Debbie and Stephanie, Donna (Bill) Harrison of Winnipeg, children, Andrea and Ryan, Stan of Regina and David of Portage La Prairie. She will also be dearly missed by many nieces, nephews and cousins who always enjoyed a visit with Auntie Mary. He three oclock Vault Friends will remember her in their afternoon visits. A special thanks to Kate and Jackie for watching over Mom. Babas life was characterized by warm nurturing relationships with people from all age groups. She was a woman who gave without measure to family, friends and her community. All of us will always remember coming to a home filled with the welcoming aromas of chicken soup and fresh baked bread. After a visit to Babas house, we always left with a pair of warm mittens or slippers, a bag full of garden produce, a care package of her famous Ukrainian goodies and a feeling of her unconditional love and support. Her love of nature and deep appreciation of Gods gifts taught us all to value the same. For her, each season brought something new to anticipate - mushrooms and berries in the spring, her garden produce in the summer, preserves to be lovingly put up in the fall and her winter visits to all of us. Community involvement was important to her and she could always be counted on to lend a helping hand. She was a lifelong member of St. Josephats Ukrainian Catholic Church and an active member of the Sifton Womens Institute. Her strong faith was modelled for us as we saw her embrace the joys and sorrows of life. Her legacy to us was the importance of family and faith in God. Mom had just celebrated her 80th birthday a short three weeks ago with her family and friends. It was a remarkable day that she truly enjoyed. Even though Baba loved flowers, we ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to the Manitoba Developmental Centre, Box 1190, Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, R1N 3C6. Prayers will be offered on Tuesday, September 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Chapel, Dauphin, MB. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 15 at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Josephats Ukrainian Catholic Church, Sifton, MB. Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mitrat Michael Buyachok will officiate and interment will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, Dauphin, Manitoba. She had gone no further from us than God and God is very near. The Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Service, Dauphin, Manitoba are entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
