SIGURVEIG (SIGGA) THORLACIUS (nee SIGURDSON) Peacefully on October 1, 1999, at the Ashern Personal Care Home, Sigga beloved mother and Amma passed away in her 89th year. Sigga was born on April 24, 1911 at Silver Bay. She lived all of her life in this area. On May 6, 1933, Sigga and Olafur Thorlacius were married. They farmed in the Ralph Connor district until 1979 when they moved to Ashern. Sigga was a member of the Betel Lutheran Church and also a long standing member of the Betel Ladies Aid. She belonged to the Ashern Leisure Club and was an ardent and competitive carpet bowler. She was very proud of her Icelandic heritage. She was known for her warm hospitality. She liked nothing better than to have someone over for coffee, there was always room for one more, either for lunch or lodging. Amma was known all through the country for her brown bread and rulla pylsa. This was often complimented by her homemade donuts, canned fish, cakes, cookies, jams and jellies. Sigga spun and knit for all her family and gave or sold mitts to many in the community. She also was excellent at crocheting. Sigga always had a garden and did lots of canning and pickling. Sigga loved to shop and especially loved Christmas and never forgot birthdays. Sigga loved all children and many called her Amma. Her grandchildren were dear to her and remember her for her singing, dancing, stories and Icelandic rhymes. Her family meant the world to her. She will be lovingly remembered always in our hearts and thoughts. Sigga leaves to mourn her sons, Agnar (Gwen), Oli (Carolyn), Jon (Sandi) and daughter-in-law Doreen; grandchildren, Joanne (Leonard), Helga (Randy), Sandi (Bob), Barb (Ed), Brad, Arne, Cheryl, Eric (Heather), Laurel (Allan), Audrey (Dale), Kristy (Kelly) great-grandchildren, Tamsyn, Dana, Devin, Heather, Jenna, Jared, Mark, Katie, Elise, Selena, Kyle, Emily and Bryce; sisters, Lina Halldorsson and Maria Russell; sisters-in-law, Maria Sigurdson, Judy Sigurdson and Helen Thorlacius and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
