Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVIOLET SWITZER On Monday, January 24, 2000, Violet Switzer, age 90, passed away peacefully at the Grace General Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry in 1978 after 45 years of marriage, her brothers, James, Billy, Geordie and John Black and her sister, Margaret. Violet will be remembered by her three children, Lynn (Marian) Switzer of Portage, Joan Ohrlein or Quesnel, B.C. and Larry (Maureen) Switzer of Winnipeg; her sister, Beatrice; her grandchildren, Tracy (Dean) Switzer, Rhonda (Dan) Switzer Nadasdi, Marni (Craig) Switzer Zamzow, Scott Ohrlein, Laurie (Terry) Ohrlein Johansson, Penny (Paul) Ohrlein Seier and seven great-grandchildren. Violet was born on May 12, 1909 in Two Creeks (Elkhorn), Manitoba. She grew up and attended schools in Two Creeks and Ross until going to Moosmin to take teacher training. Violet raised her children and taught school in Carberry, Elkhorn, Basswood and Winnipeg. After 30 years of teaching, she retired from St. James-Assiniboia School Division in 1974 and continued to lead an active life. Violet was a dedicated member of the Ivy Odd Fellows and Rebekah Lodge #19 during her teaching career and into retirement, serving in many leadership roles. Retirement also gave her time to pursue interests in swimming, golfing, reading, travelling, collecting antiques and enjoying her family. Violet had a zest for life which enabled her to experience and enjoy new pursuits. Violets last few years were spent at West Park Manor. The family is grateful for the care and compassion shown her by the staff of the home. Cremation has taken place and there will be a funeral service on Thursday, January 27, at 3:00 p.m. in the Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway.
