Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFREDRICK WALLACE TALLMAN Passed away peacefully at North York General Hospital on Thursday, June 29, 2000. Fred is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years and best friend Alice, and by four children and their spouses and their ten children: Jane and Tony Lockley, and Paul and Beth of Toronto; Rick and Diana, and Kristopher of Winnipeg and Kimberly of Toronto; Bruce and Grace and Hailey, Brandon and Alana of London, Ontario; Ross and Barbara and Adam, Jacob and Alyson of Winnipeg. Fred will be missed by his family and his many friends in the insurance industry, his church, Oriole-York Mills United, the YMCA and the Rotary Club of Toronto. Fred also built up a large number of colleagues and friends during the more than 50 years he lived and worked in Winnipeg and was at one time Chairman of the Greater Winnipeg Economic Development Board. Fred was President of the Citadel Life when he moved to Toronto in 1979 to take on duties with both the life company and the Citadel General. He retired in 1984 from daily operations but continued on the boards of the companies until 1994. He carried on his own company, Tallman Enterprises, for a few years after he retired. He was Clerk of the Session at Deer Lodge United Church in Winnipeg and Treasurer for a few years at Oriole-York Mills. He was a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries, having served as Treasurer of the Institute at one time. He was an Associate of the Society of Actuaries and a Fellow of the Life Management Institute. Fred graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1943 and was President of the Students Union. He headed up the Winnipeg Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees) when it had its largest membership in 1950-51 and it was reputed to be the largest in the world. He was made an honorary Jaycee Senator. At one point he was Vice President of the Winnipeg Central YMCA. He was for several years on the Advisory Board of the Seneca College/York University Faculty to train people in Rehabilitation. He served a term as Honorary Treasurer of The Rotary Club of Toronto and headed up a number of committees for that organization. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The March of Dimes or the Foundation of the Rotary Club of Toronto. Burial after cremation will be in York Cemetery. There will be a Memorial Service at the R.S. Kane Funeral Home (6150 Yonge Street, at Goulding, south of Steeles) on Wednesday, July 5 at 2:30 p.m., conducted by Reverend Kent Clayton. Visitation one hour prior to service.
