Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN JOSEPH CZINKA On July 23, 2000 our father, grandfather and husband was called by the Lord, after a lengthy illness. John was born on August 10, 1922 in Transylvania. John was predeceased by his mother Elizabeth in 1924, his father Sandor in 1954, brother Sandor in 1988, brother Rezso in 1990. John is survived by his wife Gizella of 56 years, his son John Edward, wife Ardis, grandson John Stephen and wife Vera, granddaughter Lisa Rodgers and husband Douglas. John is also survived by two sisters, Margit and Jolanka, and brother Joseph, all of Romania. John was born in Batiz, Transylvania where he received his early education. Later he attended the Culinary School of Arts at the Pannonia Hotel in Satu Mare, Romania. Shortly after graduation in 1940 he moved to Budapest, Hungary to begin his long career managing some of the largest hotels in Budapest. In 1943 he met his wife to be and his future soul mate, Gizella. They were married on April 16, 1944. John received the top award for the Hungarian Culinary Arts in Budapest in 1951. John, with his wife Gizella, their son John left Hungary to begin a new life in their adopted country, Canada on December 31, 1956. He held several positions as Chef in various hospitality operations. John found a rewarding career at the Misericordia Hospital where he worked for 28 years and retired in 1984. His passion was travelling, and also enjoyed fishing immensely with his son and grandson. John and Gizella had the good fortune to visit relatives in Hungary on several occasions during the past 44 years. John was a chartered member of the St. Anthony of Padua, (Hungarian) church from 1957 until his demise. He will be sadly, but always remembered and loved by his family and friends. "Only if you forget me, then I shall surely die". The family is very grateful to Dr. Oscar and Sheila Domke, for their loving care during Johns lengthy illness. May God bless you both. Pallbearers will be: Mike Lukacs, Joseph Bakos, John Addison, Frank Hungler, Ali Hollosy and Paul Bodi. Prayers will be held on Thursday, July 27, 7:00 p.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 371 Burnell St. Winnipeg. Funeral Services will occur Friday, July 28, 10:00 a.m. at the address above. Interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Cropo Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements, 586-8044. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of choice.
