IRENE GRACE THORDARSON (nee: Bristow) With great sadness, the family announces the passing of our mother and amma Irene Thordarson on August 18, 2000 at the Selkirk and District General Hospital at the age of 81. Mom was predeceased by her husband Bjorgvin in 1985; her parents William and Gudrun Bristow; 12 brothers and sisters; seven brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law. Left to mourn her passing and cherish her memory are her children, Brian (Dorothy), Linda (Les) former son-in-law; 2 grandchildren, Lindsay Thordarson and Amber Finnbogason; several in laws and numerous nieces and nephews. Mom was born in Gimli, the youngest of 13 brothers and sisters. In 1944 she married Bjorgvin Thordarson and together raised their two children, Brian and Linda, in their home on First Avenue. She enjoyed her daily trips downtown for lunch and coffee, playing cards with Inga and Violet and her regular bingo nights. She was also an avid member of a bowling league in Gimli for several years. Mom was a devoted mother who always placed her familys needs above her own. We will miss her dearly. The family would like to thank Dr. Hussein, Dr. Wiesenthal, the nurses of Selkirk and Gimli hospitals, Rev. Stan Richards and the Gimli Legion Ladies Auxiliary. We also wish to thank all our friends and relatives for their support and thoughtfulness and a special thanks to Sharon Kumps for helping to get mom home from bingo. In accordance with Moms wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial celebration of her life will take place on Tuesday, August 22 at 2:00 p.m. in the Gimli Legion Hall upstairs with Pastor Stan Richards officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of ones choice. Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Gimli, in care of arrangements.
