ROBERT HAGGART TARR Robert Haggart Tarr born July 19, 1909 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, passed away February 5, 2001 in Lions Gate Hospital, North Vancouver after a short illness. Bob received his law degree from the University of Manitoba in 1934 and married Barbara Paterson in 1936. In 1939 they moved to Ottawa where he was the assistant secretary and eventually deputy secretary of the Foreign Exchange Control Board of the Bank of Canada. A move to Montreal came in 1952 when he became the assistant secretary, and eventually secretary and then vice-president of Canadian National Railways. Following his retirement in 1971 Bob and Barbara moved to North Vancouver, where he enjoyed curling and golf until he was 89 years old. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Barbara, his daughter Beverley (David) Gowe, North Vancouver, his son David (Gisele) Tarr, Montreal and his daughter Valerie (Norris) Wood, Montreal, as well as his seven grandchildren Robert Tarr, Bermuda, Deborah (Jason) Halmay, Lac Marois, Quebec, and their mother, Barbara Tarr, Toronto, Geoffrey (Adelin) Gowe, Vancouver, Christopher (Christine) Gowe, North Vancouver, Gregory Gowe, Vancouver, Heather Wood, Kelowna, Elizabeth Wood, Montreal and five great-grandchildren Sarah and Ryan Gowe, Daryn and Kennedy Gowe and Julia Halmay. A memorial service will take place at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 10 at St. Catherines Anglican Church, 1058 Ridgewood, North Vancouver. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the charity of your choice.
