Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryAGNES CHRISTINE THORARINSON Peacefully, on Sunday, March 11, 2001 at the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Gimli, MB, Agnes Christine Thorarinson, a lifelong resident of the Riverton area, passed away after a short battle with cancer. Agnes was born to Julia and August Hokanson on September 12, 1914 at Howardville. She was the youngest of five children and the only one born in Canada after her parents moved from Lutsen, MN. She was predeceased by her first husband Harold Johnson; her parents; brothers, Carl and Axel (Clara) Hokanson; sisters, Anna (Ben) Johnson and Clara (Mundi) Martin; two infant children, and her second husband Stefan H. Thorarinson. Agnes married Harold Johnson December 15, 1935. He passed away August 8, 1936. On December 4, 1937 she married Stefan Haraldur Thorarinson. He passed away December 28, 1997. She is survived by four daughters, Norma (Ken) Wilcox, Sonja (Les) Kornik, Carla (Frank) Books, Dorothy (Lawrence) Charney; and two sons, Jonas and Bradley. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, Brenda (Mark) Abraham (Eric and Nicole) Cindy (Syl Jones) Wilcox; Bill Wilcox; Wesley (Linda) Kornik (Aron and Elizabeth) Wade Kornik (Julian and Michelle) Christine (Neil) Johnson (Tanis and Kevin), Stefan (Bonnie) Books (Stefanie) Stewart (Annie) Books (Matthew and Jeremy) Sandy Warren (Taylor and Samantha) Pam (Gary) Bohn (Jaden) Gail (John) Brewis (Brittany and Ryan) Greg Charney; Sharon (Jason Sutyla) Charney. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Evelyn Hokanson and Anna, Mary and Marion Thorarinson, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mother was everything a family could ask for, the hub of our life, friend, confidant, counsellor and nurse and especially "Donut" maker. She was always ready to help family, friend or neighbour. She delivered babies and calves. She had a lifelong interest in all of nature from flowers to trees, sea shells to rocks and fossils, butterflies to snakes and bugs, and instilled this interest in her children, grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren. Mom took an active roll in her community. She was a member of the Lutheran Ladies Aid and later the Lutheran Church Women, served on the Lutheran Church Council, was a founding member of the Riverton New Horizons Club, served on the Arborg & District Agricultural Society, and was a 4-H organizer and leader. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 17 at 2:00 p.m. in the Riverton-Hnausa Lutheran Church with Pastor Trudy Sluth officiating. Interment in the Riverton Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if relatives or friends so desire, donations in memory may be made to the Riverton-Hnausa Lutheran Church, Box 149, Riverton, MB R0C 2R0 or a charity of choice. A special thank you to home care workers, Dr. S.V. Patel and the nurses and staff at Johnson Memorial Hospital for their tender care and compassion.
