CLIFFORD RAYMOND HOPFNER Surrounded by his loving family, Cliff passed away on April 8, 2001, after a long and courageous battle. Cliff is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 50 years, Elsie; his children, Carol Wish (Mark), Kerry Hopfner (Joann Bourque), Lee Hopfner (Colleen McCoy), Lynn Stomp (Eric), Kevin Hopfner (Nicola), Lori Hopfner (Mario Kurth) his grandchildren, Ryan, Ian (Alanna), Brandy (Derek), Kylie, Vanessa, Michael, Sydney; and his great-grandchildren, Savanna, Zachary, and Colton. His brothers and sister, Ardell (Verna), Doreen, Keith (Evelyn) and his brother-in-law Ben, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends. Cliff was born September 10, 1922 at Lake Lenore, Saskatchewan and spent most of his years farming in the Methley District, an area that became very dear to his heart. In the early 50s, he met and married Elsie Talpash. While farming, Cliff had the opportunity to work in the Yukon. In his retirement, he returned to visit the north with Elsie to show her the area that he thought so much of. They also enjoyed their travels to warmer climates and particularly enjoyed Hawaii. In Cliffs spare time, he chose to scour the country for antiques, enjoyed camping, feeding "HIS" birds, playing cards with his friends at the legion, visiting with his kids and grandkids. His generous nature was part of his unconditional love towards his wife, children and grandchildren. Cliff was a man of peace and unity and for him the unity of his family was of utmost importance. This was just a small part of why he was loved so much. Prayers were offered on Tuesday, April 10 at 7:00 p.m. from the Ste. Rose Memorial Chapel. Funeral service for Cliff will be held on Wednesday, April 11 at 2:00 p.m. from the Ste. Rose de Lima Roman Catholic Church. Fr. Michel Nault will officiate, with the interment to follow in the Ste. Rose Cemetery. All of Cliffs friends, especially his special friend Art Hopfner are to consider themselves as honorary pallbearers. The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the Ste. Rose Hospital staff, Dr. OHagan and Dr. Van Rooyen, the Dauphin General Hospital Dialysis and Chemo Units, Dr. Penrose, Dr. Clark, and Dr. Houston of CancerCare Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Cliff to the Prevost Foundation in care of Ste. Rose General Hospital, The Kidney Foundation of Manitoba, or to the Canadian Cancer Society. "Thanks Mom for taking such good care of Dad we know he fought very hard for us." Ste. Rose Memorial Chapel, Ste. Rose du Lac, Manitoba, in care of arrangements, (204) 447-2444.
