DOMINIKA "DUMKA" SWITAK Dumka Switak passed away peacefully, with her loving daughter at her side, at the Holy Family Nursing Home, on Sept 5, 2001. She was predeceased by her husband of sixty-six years, Mike Switak, and son-in-law, Arthur Belows. She leaves to cherish her memory, daughter, Jean Belows; grandchildren, Lesley Belows (Harold Spivak) andgrandchildren, Michaela and Alexandra Spivak, Michel Belows (Lorene) great-Madeline Belows, as well as nephews and nieces and friends. Immigrating from Poland in 1939, Dumka, Mike and family homesteaded in Cando, SK. In 1942 the family moved to Borden, SK where they farmed until the early 1970s. Their retirement years were spent in Saskatoon, where Dumka was very involved with the Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church community. She enjoyed singing in the choir, participating in church outings, and was especially active in all church fund raising activities. Her cooking skills were greatly appreciated by her family with her grandchildren possessing a particular fondness for her perogies and freshly baked buns. Mother also enjoyed and showed a great talent for embroidery, sewing, and gardening. Dumka was a loving and caring wife and mother who always looked forward to spending time with her daughter and family. As a grandmother she enjoyed watching her two grandchildren grow up and developed a special relationship with each of them. She took great pride in providing her family with the utmost in love, care, and compassion. Her kind, gentle manner, and keen sense of humour were always a pleasure to those around her. The family would like to express their appreciation to the very special staff on 2A for the excellent care that they gave to mother during her three year residence at the Holy Family Nursing Home. The always present compassion and love displayed by the staff was especially evident during the last two weeks. Words cannot describe our heartfelt gratitude. In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, donations may be made to the Holy Family Nursing Home, 165 Aberdeen Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R2W 1T9. Funeral services will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 10 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, with viewing one half-hour prior to service time.
