J. HARRY (HANK) GILL It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear dad, grandfather, brother and uncle after a battle with chronic lung disease. Hank was born in St. James MB., and attended Linwood and Britannia Schools. He was the third child of Harry and Anna Rose Gill. He was predeceased in Sept. 1999 by his wife Kay, and his brother Ted in 1994. Survived by daughters Linda (Aaron) Shnitka, and Betty Gill, sons Jon (Susan), and Rick (Suzy), and 5 grandchildren Kathy, Dan, JJ, Joshua and Jeremy, all of Winnipeg. Also survived by two sisters Rose (Richard) Cooper of Penticton BC, and Ida Laidlaw of Winnipeg, and sisters-in-law Dorothy (Vern) Sund of Woodlands MB and Jean (Bill) Forrester of Winnipeg, and brother-in-law Harry (Myrt) Puddifant of Innisfail AB, as well as nieces and nephews, and his loyal cat Wynter. After Trade School, he worked one year at Kipp Kelly, then joined Royal Cdn. Navy Volunteer Reserve in April 1942. He served in the Middle East and Egypt attached to the Royal Navy (Britain), and was demobilized in March 1945. He was employed by Dominion Bridge Co. Ltd. for 41 years, retiring in July 1986. He was a 55-year member of the St. James Legion No.4, active in the Over 60 Club, and a member since 1979 of the Chiefs & Petty Officers Association of HMCS Chippawa (now the White Ensign Club). While his health permitted, he enjoyed golfing, 5-pin bowling and woodworking. Sincere thanks to Dr. A.N. Schroeder and to the many home care workers who cared for him over the past two years. Major Bill Loveless, Salvation Army Chaplain, will officiate at a service to be held Wednesday, October 31, 2001 at 10:30AM at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave., Aubrey St. entrance, with viewing one-half hour prior. Interment to follow at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Ave. Flowers are gratefully declined; however a donation to the MB Lung Association or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
